Hah, I understand the glitch name, very clever and effective trick. Still an enjoyable composition on its own for sure, especially the latter half where the subtle and a bit dissonant melody appears.

The harp is so nice, the constant strum really adds movement to this. It's a good base for the more intricate parts to launch off of.

Harp is a great part of music you rarely hear, and this writer and player came through.  The expression and articulation and unique playing style were really something else.  Expression and articulation have to do with the writer also of course.

PROGRAM NOTE
A ‘glitch’ may be defined as a sudden, usually temporary equipment malfunction or irregularity, and it also means to suffer from such a malfunction or irregularity. In Glitch, my primary goal was to create a fun, highly rhythmic piece with lots of twists and turns, using a few extended techniques to emulate glitches in the musical tapestry. Each glitch interrupts the current section a couple times, triggering the next section. Glitch was commissioned by Joseph Rebman.

Glitch (Harp Solo)

I am not a big fan of labelling people and things in general. Music neither by the way. In that respect, my main distinguishing is « I like it » or « I don’t like it » and as Emerson said « A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds », so yeap, even those two simple categories can change after few listening!

For those of you who think it’s a too easy escape, I will try. This song is inspired by other world, folk and jazz authors. If I have to, I would describe it as my personal contribution to the world music with far Asian themes and jazzy kind of transitions, which creates folkish feelings. All those based on percussion, contrabass, acoustic guitar and naturally pipa.

But recognise it: it’s bit like speaking about the menu you had last night at this new restaurant. There are so many ways to describe a culinary experience: using technical words, describing the colors, the consistencies, explaining the tastes, savours, flavours, feelings... But you always end up summarising by « I loved it! » or « Once is enough, thanks! ».

So, for you today, « My Chinese lunch », just listen to it and let me know if you like it or how you would describe it! Hope you will come back!

American composer Robert Paterson is a true New Yorker—born and bred in Buffalo, he lived in Rochester and Ithaca for over ten years, in New York City for over twenty years, and now lives in Saratoga Springs, near the Adirondacks. Paterson’s colorful music embraces a wide variety of themes, everything from goddesses and online dating to mathematics and the environment. His music is filled with emotion and fierce rhythmic energy, marked by elegance, wit, and meticulous craftsmanship. Named Composer of The Year by the Classical Recording Foundation at Carnegie Hall, Paterson is the winner of the Alfred I. DuPont Award, and his opera Three Way won the Grammy® under Best Classical Producer of the Year. His music is often a Best of the Year pick on National Public Radio. His orchestral tone poem, Dark Mountains, regularly airs on NPR’s Performance Today. Three Way premiered with Nashville Opera, then BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), and across the United States. Minnesota Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra, The Oratorio Society of New York, Buffalo Philharmonic, Albany Pro Musica, Albany Symphony, Musica Sacra, Austin Symphony, Vermont Symphony, and ensembles worldwide perform his works.
