"This awful incident serves as a reminder to all to uphold justice while in a position of authority..." Based on the title and initial sound-bites, do not settle for the first impression that this is simply some rant against police or the memorialization of one incident.  

As the title suggests, the event that largely influenced this track was the shooting of Laquan McDonald that occurred in Chicago on October 20, 2014. After viewing the dash cam footage, my initial reaction of shock and confusion eventually gave way to reflection on topics including abuses of power, social justice, meaningful protest, and potential solutions. I started work on this track nearly a year ago. Since that time many more youth have lost their lives, and several police have also been killed in senseless acts of violence. 

While I don't have personal ties to these specific events, I have worked with many youth who have had problems with drugs and the legal system. I care about those students, and it's troubling to see events like these. What if a kid that you or I care about was to die in such a horrific way? 

I am grateful for the Chicago protesters who provided the beautiful voice of unity that is sampled on this track. I am also grateful for friends who have provided encouragement throughout this track's development. Years ago I never imagined I would record something like this. It's angry and dark yet intended to be hopeful. I hope this track stirs some kind of emotion as you listen. Feel free to love it or hate it... I gave it my best.
