Everyone’s favourite bangin’ Brisbane duo X CLUB. ready up four typically in your face cuts of driving, textured techno on 1Ø PILLS MATE that have us dreaming of giant warehouses and sweaty hugs. Channeling big rave energy from grime, electro and breaks - and ultimately using this influence to texture their heavy sound - the pair take inspiration from the 90’s rave movement and contemporary experimental artists.

‘Turning A Blind Eye To This Nonsense’ delivers on the escapism it promises, staying true to the driven aesthetic that the duo have become known for; sirens blaring, deep atmospherics and uncompromising rave. Fellow Australian Mutant Joe is enlisted on ‘Silo’ - an acid dipped techno-electro workout spawned from the depths of hell.

The record's biggest moments arrive on ‘Beta Rays’, where both the artist's interest in sound design and sonic engineering across their respective solo projects really shines across 8 minutes of cinematic rave. Managing to capture the nostalgic rave feeling that Bicep’s ‘Glue’ channelled to roaring success, X CLUB. serve up an emotionally-driven journey that is destined to dominate sound systems around the globe.

Their UK influence is felt most heavily on ‘300mpbs’ (½ of the duo, Benedict Clarke, is actually from Bristol); a gnarly cut of snarling drum & bass influenced breaks that is sure to incite a gun-finger trigger rush in the club.

For the next two parts in this Mix series I want to take you on a progressive journey. A journey of melodies, rhythms, tempos, keys all united by progressive design and rich audiophonic textures. Intended either for the dancefloor during a pre-party, at a party before the main act or just before peak hours but equally suited for home listening while gaming. It took me quite a while to curate these two mixes (APEIRON & DELTA) during which I deep dived into the sounds I really loved and wanted to explore more particularly in the bpm range of 128 - 138. It also needed to align with the more melodic, tech-y sound of earlier mixes and the idea of being a pre-peak set within this larger series. This quickly made me go further and further back in time, at first to the mid 90’s from where I slowly began working my way back in time and most of the tracks are from the early to mid 2000’s, discovered through hidden Spotify playlists, Youtube videos, MixesDB2, Rave Archive (sadly down at the moment), Mixcloud, Soundcloud and of course the greatest contributor to these mixes - Discogs. Finally it became time for the recording process which was also long and exhausting as the two mixes were recorded together - continuously and after a few tries I got a result I was content with. **NOT INTENDED FOR AIRPODS OR PHONE SPEAKERS -- PROPER SPEAKERS OR STUDIO HEADPHONES RECOMMENDED*

With all that being said that left me with these two mixes, made with a lot of love and care. Major inspirations for these two mixes were Markus Schulz, Lemon8, Jonas Steur, Gabriel & Dresden, Fluke, Snutz, Chris Sedayao, Armin van Buuren, Tiësto and of course my dear friend Gabriel. Delta Kinesis takes off exactly where Apeiron Alloiosis left off and continues the trend of slowly building up the energy, driving beats and progressive song structures but departs slightly and introduces more pure trance songs and slowly but surely departing from progressive house in favor of - as stated - more trance, breaks and a lot of tribal sounds but even more prominent this time, particularly during the end of the mix. This mix in particular features a lot more uplifting tracks especially during the middle of the mix, and brings that energy back into more progressive structures which then blends together with those tribal sounds coming back in, -and more space and ethereal sounds take over. This mix also slowly builds energy, expectation and breaks up the generally predictable nature of four-to-the-floor structures with electro and breakbeat influences. The breaks infused ethereal progressive nature creates a constantly evolving mix that should never leave you feeling dull and just prepared enough to follow along but not predictable enough to see any change ahead of time. The tracks again have release dates spanning multiple decades with the oldest being released in 1998 and the newest in 2021 but the majority of the mix this time is more spread out with most of them being released between 2000-2011.

Hardware: Pioneer XDJ-XZ & 2x CDJ-350 (DJM-350 for some) for all mixes.
No altering of the audio has been done except for adjusting the audio levels to make the mix as consistent as possible. Everything recorded live.
