When I was younger, and in the closet, I got a crush on a friend who was already out. The vibe was there, but the only way to know for sure would be to embrace my own true feelings at the same time. It was a really confusing time, between WANTING to say something and the self hate that tells you it's the WORST thing you can do. Sometimes there's a lot to unlearn to be able to embrace yourself for who you are; for me this song has been a huge step in that direction.
