this was recorded some years ago, in one spontaneous nightshift. we didn´t know what the "bbc essential radioshow" was and we thought we could always deliver this mix whenever, it wouldn´t matter. then we got that emergency call at night - and we needed to deliver until next morning. so we did. one take. all vinyl. no postproduction and we are still exited and very proud of it. still sounds like mandy. thanx to FLOOR⁴ #F2t4 who found this recording and sent it to us - cause it´s nowhere else in the net.

Thievery Corporation have grown very strong roots in the Rivera Maya over the years, but have never had a chance to play a liveshow in the area. DAY ZERO is proud to be presenting the first live show in Playa del Carmen with Thievery Corporation.   

"This is a mix of some of my favorite tripped out, orchestral, brazilian/latin, and cinematic music from the past, way before the current electronic music explosion. There’s many beautiful gems from all corners of the globe, these are the kinds of sounds that inspired Eric and myself when we started Thievery Corporation. We've got more great vibes to share from the second outdoor stage we added to Breakfast of Champions this year. This week's episode features Space Cowboys' Aaron Pope funky booty bouncing set of 100% USDA certified four on the floor house. 

Here's what Aaron has to say about playing the party: 

"Breakfast of Champions is my favorite DJ set each and every year - it’s the one party that consistently gets better and better. Don’t ask me how, but it does. This year, the addition of a second outside stage ,the great weather, and the sea of excited friends and strangers, contributed to a day which did not disappoint. Everybody I spoke to seemed incredibly happy and upbeat at the start of 2014! I don’t tend to spend much time inside at Mighty during BOC,and so I was really excited to be playing a bit later at the smaller, more intimate stage. It proved a perfect setting for the funky house set that I had planned, and it was really gratifying that so many good friends showed up to enjoy the moment with me. This mix is my first, 100% house mix at BOC, and I hope it helps some of you recapture the magical vibe of the day, or just puts a smile on your face."

About Aaron Pope:
“Dance music is all about drawing energy out of people in a positive way.” This is Aaron Pope’s belief, and that’s what most people remember about his DJ sets - his infectious energy. A longtime music fan and dance floor resident, Aaron brings this joy and love of music behind the decks with him, and at every gig he loves to dance and interact with the crowd. His sets encompass many styles, including house, breaks, electro; even funky mid-tempo if the occasion demands.

Aaron has been a professional DJ for 13 years. He has played at almost every venue in San Francisco, for a wide range of promoters and crews. He was the first resident DJ and music manager for the infamous Deep End at Burning Man. His gigs have taken him to New York, Miami and Chicago, Brazil, the Caribbean and Ibiza. As a member of the Space Cowboys, he can often be found playing at such parties as the Ghost Ship, SnowFest and the infamous Breakfast of Champions.

Sunrise Over Coachella 2013

Spectrum: a broad range of varied but related ideas whose individual features overlap and form a continuous sequence. By definition, a mix is a spectrum, and in this case, a collection of songs unified and differentiated by the softer, more delicate side of house music. This mix also marks the 3 year anniversary since releasing first mix back in June 2010. After going back and listening to my first few mixes, it's interesting to reflect on how my mix styles and taste have varied as much as they've stayed the same over time...The mixes fill a spectrum of their own and are perhaps indicative of what I've recently been finding, which is that at various levels of abstraction, all things are connected in some way, despite their differences.
