A montage of fog and ships horn sound effects from the BBC archives, mixed and arranged by Robin The Fog and played down the 27-foot Denman horn at The Science Museum, South Kensington, 01.06.14. Recording was made approximately six feet from the mouth of the horn using a simple hand-held recorder. Occasional background sounds, including the next-door canteen, can also be heard.

The foghorns of the Golden Gate bridge, recorded at the waters' edge at Fort Point on the southern end of the bridge. Recorded in some of the densest fog I've ever encountered - despite being directly overhead, the bridge and its towers were completely invisible. You'll also hear seawash on the nearby rocks, the occasional distant heavy vehicle, and three people who waited until the exact moment I started recording before deciding to have a nice chinwag. Hope it doesn't impair your enjoyment of a truly amazing sound too greatly.

Following a prominent Los Angeles lifestyle blog's announcement that Sound Baths were the next big thing in wellness for 2016, I thought an investigation into how the trend was catching on here in the UK might make for an interesting BBC report. My search lead me to Otto Haddad, who hosts sound baths several times a week in a side-street hidden behind Waterloo Station. A long way from LA, but the format of a group therapy session, using particular sound frequencies to aid meditation and provide deep relaxation, remains the same. Howlround - Hard Core *Extract from new split LP with Marta De Pascalis

Original cue: "The name Karlheinz Stockhausen may not be instantly familiar to everyone, but this pioneering German composer has been credited with 'literally changing the sound of music and the way we listen to it' - a fact clearly recognised by The Beatles, who were one of the first to adopt his experimental techniques and included his image among the great and the good on the cover of their Sgt Pepper LP. 

The frequently controversial composer amassed a remarkable body of work in his lifetime, much of it produced in Cologne, where his pioneering use of the recording studio inspired generations of musicians to discover new sound worlds of their own. It could well be argued that there isn't a single corner of contemporary music where his influence can't be detected.

Next month marks the tenth anniversary of his death, yet as a recent sold-out performance at London's Barbican demonstrated, his music has lost none of its ability to delight, inspire and confound. And it was a special occasion indeed, as two of Stockhausen's close confidents came together one last time to perform 'Stimmung', a work that still sounds like nothing else, almost fifty years later..."

The original album clocks in somewhere in the region of forty minutes. This very short and rather banal story of lumber rights, big dances and purchasing furniture is all that remains.
