Had a conversation with an old friend the other day. He’s done some tremendous things with his business and carved out a tremendously meaningful life for himself. Said something that I wanted to share with you. Because it speaks to the best way to influence other people. Leadership by example.

“Robin,” he said. “The greatest sermon in life is the one you see.” To me, he meant make your life your message. Live your truth. Walk your values. Behave your philosophy.

So easy to talk a great game. Far harder to live it. But the best do. Elegantly. Consistently. Passionately.

Show Us Wonder

There are two types of power: fake power and true power.

Fake power is fleeting, limited and fragile. Social standing, financial worth, positions and titles all come from this realm of power.

True power is much more substantial—and sustaining. It’s real and it’s honest and it lasts. Your natural creativity, productivity, bravery and decency belong to this universe of power.

At the current evolution point of our world, the majority reveres the first form. Those with the most social media followers, material objects and public adulation are considered to be the winners.

And yet, I deeply believe that the genuine heroes and the authentic titans are the very few who measure their greatness by the magic of their work, the size of their impact and by the purity of their character.

Yes our planet is dealing with a plague and wars and wildfires and social unrest. Yet, you have the true power to manage your mind, open your heart, upgrade your fitness and send your soul aflight with joy and service.

You do have this power. This I know to be true.

Lead You First

These are complex times and each of us needs to protect our positivity, defend our productivity and insulate our courage.

We are called human beings versus “human doings” for a reason: we’re meant to take breaks from our creativity, productivity and contribution to our community. Exhausted people never become game-changers. Or joyful souls.

Non-stop working [and social media checking] leaves no room for new ideas to incubate [and novel experiences to reform your imagination].

The pandemic has forced us all to slow down. This gives us the great chance to get to know ourselves better. Our gifts and talents. Our fears and wounds. And as we use this period to build higher selves, we remake tragedy into triumph.
