For World Listening Day 2016 I turned my attention to the electromagnetic fields in my studio space. These are the sounds I live in every day but rarely hear. This track is a montage of various sources, with only basic editing and layering applied.

There is a stark border between the clear cut portion of the woods and the trees. This false line demarcates distinct milieu, of biotics, of abiotics, of listening. Only a few steps inside the woods the howl of the wind is muted. There is a complex mesh of sounds, not all easily recognisable. Twigs scrape on branches and leaves rustle. Two birds call. Overhead the evergreen tops whisper pink noise. We cannot hear the wind, we can only witness its passing. 

NOTES
The recorder was hidden in a hollow behind a large tree, and left for 20 minutes. This stereo recording was made using Primo 172 electret microphones into an Olympus LS-11. Original file format 48 kHz 24-bit WAV. EQ and level equalisation applied.
