Robin Thurston - Mixpub Radio Friday Night Guest Mix (January 2025)

An artist with a rich and impressive background, Robin Thurston's appearance on the "Fall Particles 2016" compilation marked the next stage in a rapidly evolving career. On that release, "Cura Brochero" was an assured debut with its rich melodic flow. Now, Particles returns to the track with a full release of its own alongside remixes from an Argentinean talent and a rising Russian pairing.

With a particularly impressive 2016 behind him, Temperley resident, Cristian Ramirez, from the outskirts of the Buenos Aries capital, has become a force to be reckoned with in the underground dance scene with his Cristian R contraction. Inspired by industry stalwarts that include Sasha, Digweed and Tenaglia, Ramirez's work has grown in stature and recognition since early work for Deepsessions Recordings. Since then, a double century of production credits has found themselves allied to such notable imprints as Baroque, Flow Vinyl and Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital. Furthermore, the three-track "Outer Space" EP with sometime collaborator, Kasall, marked a high-profile appearance on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat imprint.

A regular on Particles with original and remix work, the highly regarded, "Spaceship" EP, ultimately led to Cristian R's full-length album for Proton Music in the shape of December 2016's 20-track "New Frequency". Now returning to Particles, the Cristian R remix of "Cura Brochero" is full of the percussive flair that has become a trademark of the Argentinean's sound, as hi-hat patterns beat out a distinctive cadence. Intelligently using Thurston's original components to mesmerising effect, bass and melody combine in spine-tingling association with freeform counterpoint sequences and spot effects supplying additional texture.

Kazan duo Anton MAKe and Shamil OM, from Russia's Tatarstan Republic, both have a rich history of involvement in the dance industry. Anton's production knowledge has seen him feature heavily on the OLD SQL imprint along with over a century of production credits for the likes of Mistique Musique, Balkan Connection and Stellar Fountain. Similarly, Shamil OM has forged a successful career in the clubs of his homeland as promoter and DJ for over two decades and two hundred events and parties including Kazantip, Fortdance and Depo. Appearances alongside such notable headliners as Deep Dish, Nic Fanciulli and D Ramirez have thus served to cement a reputation in his homeland. A fledgling collaborative venture, Anton MAKe and Shamil OM's debut offering came courtesy of the three-track, "Naja Nova" EP on Cid Inc.'s Replug in August 2016 and a subsequent appearance on the Visceral compilation series with "Body Thetans".

Now debuting on Particles as a joint venture, Anton MAKe and Shamil OM's remix for Robin Thurston presents a hypnotic and metronomic backdrop through machine gun fire hi-hats and deep kick. Subtle percussive additions add a distinctive flair as low-slung bass groove hints at a sinister edge. Evolving delicately, elements from the original find their way into a multi-faceted remix that shines with additional production layers that pulsate gently against snare and tom fills. The resultant affair is a unique interpretation of "Cura Brochero".

For its staggering 242nd release, BC2 is stranded in reverie once more! On January 28th, the standout Serbian sub label welcomes back Robin Thurston. Much like 2016’s “Everything in Perspective,” “Lost in the Moment” maintains the Londoner’s distinctive waning atmos and pointed nuances. Returning to BC2 for a third time, Erdi Irmak illuminates the title track's haze.  Unlike previous reworks of Blue Cell and Paul Hamilton, his latest remix calls upon last year's lush inspiration. Mirroring work for Magician On Duty, Where The Heart Is and The Soundgarden, he expertly melds warm melodic textures and dynamic progressive design.
