Brilliant, beautifully captured performance- reposted!

Bravo Rob and Helen!  Your low voice range is stunning but not to be outdone by your high range at 2:59.  Verdi knew how to put his singers through their paces, but also how much music has been inspired by Shakespeare plays.

I must admit, thru growing up with lonnie donnegan and Karl Denver (on the radio) I used to think I did not like a trained voice. But partly from listening to your singing on SC I have become aware of the voice  used properly.  Great Listen

Like Jonathan, not being very familiar with the genre, I feel singularly unqualified to give an opinion.  All I know is that, whatever the style of music, I always enjoy listening to your singing and to Helen's playing.  At my age, it's good to broaden one's horizons and visiting your page is always both enjoyable and an education...

This song is written by Jim Barrett from Cork, Ireland, who sings and plays guitar, his brother Noel plays the bass. Roger Whittelsey from Boston produced it and added keyboards, drums and some vocals, and after that, I was lucky to have the opportunity the add some saxophone.

Brian’s songs, both recorded with The Beach Boys and solo songs, are always innovative and enjoyable at the same time 🔆

The album “Pet Sounds” (released in 1966) by The Beach Boys is a real masterpiece that enchants and inspires many musicians to this day!
The wonderful song “God Only Knows” which comes from this album is the work of Brian Wilson. One of several best songs of all time indeed! 😎

Also worth recommending is Brian Wilson's solo album entitled “Smile” (released only in 2004) which includes the brilliant track "Good Vibrations”. The whole album impresses with its fresh ideas and innovative sound! 

I really love it 🔆 I'm sure Brian Wilson's beautiful and fascinating music will stay with us forever!

Rushing water

I had the very good fortune to connect with Andy H aka “Noobly” a few months ago over music that we mutually admired and we agreed to find a future opportunity to collaborate. This is the result. Noobly’s beautifully rich track, propelled by his soaring guitar work, felt like a kind of call to prayer to my ear. I tried to echo this somewhat in singing the bridge. Lyrically, just for kicks I used the Socratic Method to construct the verses (persuasion through Q&A) so that this song’s meaning becomes self-evident and hopefully more of a personal experience for each listener. Thanks for checking it out!

Cosmic Call

This year is the 50th anniversary of the ABC Movie of the week Trilogy of Terror- It was 3 chilling adaptions of 3 short stories written by the great sci fi author Richard Matheson. The late Karen Black ( not only a wonderful actress,she was also a great singer and songwriter) starred in all 3 of the features playing 4 characters.  As 12 year old kids of course we were the most horrified and terrified by the final story Amelia - a  story about  a demonic warrior doll that comes to life and starts attacking poor Ms. Black

 Starts out pretty chill but the last 10 mins of that film were very intense for us in 1975 ..we kids couldn't sleep well for a few nights .. I wrote the song as an homage to the story/movie/Ms. Black ( she didnt really like the movie) as well as using the story as  metaphor for the demons that live in us all

Emergence. Our humanity. Humans being humane... It's actually quite a selfish term when you reflect on what we mean for evolution up to this point. We are the first known beings that can reason their full existence and we have become that destroyer of natural selection from before we existed even though we have the ability to reflect on the importance of all those niches to the system itself.

This is very dangerous as we are not only affecting the climate but it looks like the balanced web of life that has built up slowly through billions of years allowing humans exist.

Gaia theory suggest that harmony and connection with everything is the way forward. We do this through endeavouring to understand this place properly and appreciation for everything. I believe in connecting with everything neuroplasticity can take over and rewire our brains to the system and a path on the greater good for all life. We need this to emerge collectively for it to flourish and become that positive beacon the present and future needs... The signs are there and we are analogies for the larger system. Just like a fake human forest is comparable but has no where near the strength of one that took millions of years and started as an amoeba... Don't insult the idea of the greater good being some confusing God wrapped thing you don't have to worry about being an atheist or agnostic. It's the greater good for a snail or you or a blade of grass and has nothing to do with anything we don't understand now.

Part -Time Handsome Man

Macbeth is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi, with an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave and additions by Andrea Maffei, based on Shakespeare's play of the same name. Written in 1846 it was Verdi's tenth opera and also the first of Shakespeare's plays which he adapted for the operatic stage.

In Act II Macbeth has murdered King Duncan and become king, but plots the murder of Banco and his son Fleance to thwart the prophecy that Banco’s children will rule Scotland. As the assassins lie in wait for Banco outside the castle, Banco sings his recitative and aria “Studia il passo  -Come dal ciel precipita” (Watch your step - How from the heaven falls), in which he warns his son about his feeling of foreboding. The aria’s noble, rich unfolding comes to an impassioned peak just before the coda, when the assassins strike him down but fail to halt his escaping son.

The aria was written for basso profondo (here transcribed for baritone). My attempt had me step out of my comfort zone, both in expression and in range. The piano as always was brilliantly played by Helen Roberts.
