"Robosonic has been a pivotal part of Off Recordings roster, their releases being highly expected every time and usually meaning instant dancefloor melting magic. With a hip hop and techno background and adding many frequent flyer miles with worldwide gig schedule, the pair shows no sign of stopping. This time is no exception, Cord and Sacha get back in their creative roll of sample wizardry to provide two mouth watering jams. They once again prove their love for organic sounds and reivindicate the use of the turntable as an instrument, adding that old-school vibe to their trademark beats.

“Macho Madness" is quite a trip, sweet rhodes over a bouncy bassline, great sample work adding guitars and an insane speech. As always, breakdowns are intense and its impossible not to dance to the groove!

For the second track, Robosonic joins another Off family team, Mat.Joe and together they go deep into their hip hop influences again working the samples as only they could, a little disco flavor, a driving bass...All the ingredients are there for another instant classic and a respectful shout out to Detroit producer legend J Dilla, who left the game too early. It’s always a thrill to welcome back one of the most unique and successful acts in our roster. Berlin based Cord and Sacha, duo also known as Robosonic, have been crafting hip hop and soul infused house jams for OFF Recordings in the last couple of years. 
While staying true to themselves in keeping an undogmatic approach to club music, this sound has become a solid parameter in their energetic DJ performances. We are happy to bring them back with an EP showcasing all of this magic in 3 amazingly engineered tracks. 

On this release with the lucky golden era catalogue number „93“, Robosonic's organic blend of classy house music and classic hiphop goes next level again: New York rap legend Masta Ace, originally part of the famed Juice Crew in the mid-80s (with Marley Marl, Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane among others!), known for collaborations with artists such as MF Doom, influencing rappers like Eminem, and still now known as one of the realest rappers alive, made a teenage dream come true for Cord when he recorded an original feature part and hook for Robosonic on top of their soulful "Good Old Feel"! A radio cut, boasting the full vocal performance by Masta Ace, is not included in this 3-tracker, but rather saved up for the upcoming Robosonic album. 

“Dedicated” builds on a vinyl from Sacha’s collection – this dirty jacking track is a dancefloor bomb! Uncompromisingly fun to play and dance to, it features a catchy sax lick and hip hop vocal cuts, toying with ghetto snare rolls and punchy drums. A nasty piece of house music that’s hard to forget. 

Finally, “Life Is Like” completes this journey into the golden age of hip hop. Inspired by one of the greatest producers of this era, sample workout and vocal cuts mix perfectly with drum machine beats and bass-heavy drops. There‘s even a crafty shout out to Big L, who used to speak with criminal slang, until the sad day he was shot...

Legend has it that Cord Labuhn fell in love with DJing in 1999 – right after drums, strings and keys had opened doors to his musical mind from early age on. Berlin based producer Robosonic combines with Dutch producer Ferreck Dawn to release on Kittball Records this October, with two originals and remixes from Guz and Deepshakerz.

With an extensive back catalogue including releases on Get Physical, Defected and Simma Black, Cord Labuhn aka Robosonic has garnered a reputation for producing high quality house influenced by the sounds of US Hip Hop and soul, whilst Amsterdam raised Ferreck Dawns lengthy career has seen a plethora of releases on the likes of Relief and Toolroom. 

This collaborative release fully encompasses the fresh and deep sound of Kittball Records.The duos Nine to Phife offers delectable piano riffs on top of layered of vocal samples, metallic percussion and spaced out pads, before Were There demonstrates hypnotic melodies and ethereal atmospheres that create space for the vocal to be warped, whilst skilfully crafted drum loops underpin the composition.

Next up, Amsterdam based Guz contributes his take on Nine to Phife as airy utterances of the tracks title float above an elastic bass hook and powerful rhythms, before Italian duo Deepshakerz close the release in style with their remix of Were There, utilising an infectious melody that smoothly interacts with modulated vocal licks.

Cord Labuhn known as #Robosonic launches his Black Out Series with a ”Block Party Theme”. For the #GoldenEraHouse hybrid he recorded the US HipHop pioneers Psycho Les of The Beatnuts (NYC) and Greg Nice of Nice & Smooth (Atlanta). The outcome pays a significant homage to a Beatnuts’ hit record released in the year 2000: No escapin’ this.

Episode #01 kicks off a whole series of robosonically crafted Rap-joints with a guestlist that reads like EPMD, Masta Ace, Jeru the Damaja and Big Shug of Gang Starr Foundation, B-Real of Cypress Hill, Mike Banks of Detroit’s Underground Resistance, KRS-One and more to be announced soon…
The historic background of this song – with it’s 70s soul and 90s HipHop references – became the inspiration for the artwork.

Back then in the 1970s legendary Afro-American artist Ernie Barnes painted a version of his “Sugarshack“ for Marvin Gaye’s ”I Want You“. In 1997 New York Rap crew Camp Lo made a tribute to this painting with the cover art of their classic album ”Uptown Saturday Night“.

The 2018 Robosonic reinterpretation illustrated by Sasha Sherdin merges imagery of Psycho Les’ hometown of Queens (NYC) with Berlin’s district of Kreuzberg: A metropolitan block party viewed through a ”golden era“ filter. The stereoscopic ”Viewmaster“ which Cord once found in the basement of his grandparents – not long before he bought his first vinyl
records of The Beatnuts or Nice & Smooth – was an early forerunner of virtual reality. Here it serves as a symbol for digging in the crates, learning from the past and transforming it into today’s mix up of warm, organic stereo of authentic electronic dance music and Hip Hop culture.

The New York rap legend, originally part of the famed Juice Crew in the mid-80s (with Marley Marl, Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane among others), is known for collaborations with artists such as MF Doom, for influencing rappers like Eminem, and is still known as one of the truest rappers alive. Ace made a teenage dream come true for Cord when he recorded an original feature part and hook on top of the soulful club joint ‚Good Old Feel‘.

The scratch & sample workout and the handcut artwork of this release is paying hommage to ‚A Long Hot Summer‘ (2004), one of his many timeless storytelling LPs, where Ace writes reminiscent rhymes in his natural habitat of Brownsville, Brooklyn but is organically relocated into the streets of Berlin Kreuzberg - right next to the good old Robosonic studios, birthplace of ‚Golden Era House‘. This unreleased Black Out version is now boasting the full vocal performance, while the extended 12inch dub was made for the clubs and pressed on vinyl earlier.

While Robosonic's extraordinary OFF debut „Worst Love“ was paying homage to a specific underground rap record by the Dilated Peoples (actually without sampling the record itself), the follow-up now takes it way over the edge: consciously, of sound mind. Since their early vinyl bootlegs (2005) under various aliases and their critically acclaimed first album as Robosonic (2007), Cord and Sacha incorporate a certain sense of irony into their undisputed world class production work. For their next episode on OFF, the boys cut slices of hiphop sample history and flipped them into seriously soulful house music joints. Functional arrangements with plenty of musical references to golden eras and past times create the emotional depth of Robosonic’s modern „hi-tech soul“. 
„OVER“ with its intimate feel seems less obvious than the famous hookline of „THE EDGE“. In fact Dr. Dre was not the first beatmaker to cook it up, so Robosonic probably aren‘t the last either. They just do what they like doing best. Funnily enough our praised creators anticipate critics and let Talib do the talking: „These cats ain‘t real.“

We had the pleasure to get our hands on the soulful house jam "Sunday Shoutin'", released on 4th Floor / Defected in the year 2000 by JOHNNY CORPORATE, the New-Jersey born and bred, NYC and DC based DJ & producer duo consisting of Doug Smith & Richard Payton. 
The original, remixed by the likes of Eric Morillo and Harry "Choo Choo" Romero, sold over 30,000 copies back in the day and even made it into the UK pop charts. We love this track and have been playing our own vinyl copy so much that it's all scratched and warped now. :) Very excited to share our rework with you!

Robosonic and Gang Starr Foundation member Big Shug drop their highly anticipated bouncin’ collab, ‘Ghetto’ - out now on Robosonic’s label OUTTAKES. A native Berlin producer, Robosonic joins forces with Boston Rap Mogul, Big Shug, paying homage to hip-hop, house music and the spirit of the Boston and Berlin scenes. Speaking on ‘Ghetto’, Robosonic says:
 
"I have been listening to rap music from an early age and my music has been heavily influenced by the sound. Creativity and self-expression can be acts of both personal healing and empowerment for your community – something I admire and I think is true of hip hop. On the track, Boston born rap legend Big Shug tells a true story about his first visits to Europe in the early 90’s with Gang Starr and shoots a golden-era style rhyme over my electronic wall of sound, a nod to 90’s life in Berlin. Nodding to Golden-era hip hop influences from the East Coast and the hedonistic electronic music that filled the streets of Germany’s techno capital during the time of the legendary ‘Love Parade’ street parties, ‘Ghetto’ entices with Shug’s raw verses over an infectious beat that sets a subtle references to Da Hool’s ‘Meet Her At The Love Parade’. This powerful tech-house, hip-hop hybrid seamlessly merges these two worlds together, visually represented with a series from model kit street artist Joshua Smith.

A highly accomplished producer, Robosonic’s first foray into music came from an early obsession with hip-hop, access to his parents record collection and an innate ability to quickly pick up the skills to master musical instruments. The Robosonic brand is known for uplifting, physical stunts on the dancefloor and delivering DJ-tailored tracks for HipHop-loving House & Techno heads. Now, since the world is so different, slowing down has become the new high at times. Cord pulled off this Corona boogie completely remote from his Berlin studio, featuring two legends of weed and HipHop culture for some more hybrid growth. B-Real made some of the most iconic stoner rap classics with Cypress Hill in California, while Psycho Les has been blowing off steam for some time on the East Coast with The Beatnuts. Berlin-based visual artist Gogo Plata completes the scene, adding his cartoon magic to the new Outtakes release 'High Like' - out of the box. That's all folks.

YOO we made a remix for Kerri Chandler, one of the most influential and prolific artists of soulful and deep dance music. We tried to keep the spirit of the original track from 1996, while using instruments from back in the day (Roland JX-1, drum computers) and adding our own touch. The remix is coming out on King Street Sounds on 20th May, the infamous house label from NYC we bought records from when we were 16. Hallelujah!

"Kerri 'Kaoz' Chandler one of deep house music's originators, has been injecting soul into music since the early nineties. An ambassador of the natural and instinctive 4/4 beat, Kerri's influences can be traced back to New Jersey growing up in a family of jazz musicians. His father being a respected deejay, provided Kerri with a rich background in the origins of soul, disco and the New York Underground Sound (known also as "Garage" music). Accompanying his father to the gigs, Kerri began playing records at the Rally Record Club in East Orange, New Jersey at the tender age of thirteen. Exposed to such musical creativity, it wasn't long before Kerri found himself interested in production. 

Since the signing of his first single "SuperLover/Get It Off" by Atlantic in 1991, Kerri began producing a prolific body of work that has helped coin him one of the most respected house producers in the world. This has been achieved by remaining true to his style. When listening to tracks such as the "Atmosphere EP" on Shelter Records and the seminal, "A Basement, Redlight and A Feeling" album on Madhouse, one has to marvel at Kerri's ability to not compromise his unique sound for commercial gain. A spiritual man, Kerri prays before making a record. Each project is an attempt to inject his free spirit into a groove. In the expanses of his breaks the odd counter rhythm will inexplicably appear for a second and then disappear, creating fleshy excitement, not mechanical repetition. His now legendary bass-lines go from heavy and heady to playful and quirky while remaining deliriously intoxicating. His fusions, clamped to the beat of his unique thundering kick drum, redefine house music at every turn. His hooks are loving details, paying attention to horn hits, washes of synthesizers, and catchy choruses creating songs with brutal drive. A believer in peace and harmony, Kerri blames soulful house's positive vibes for its failure to make it commercially, as its openness to influences are difficult for many to accept.

Kerri is fascinated by technology and its application to creativity. He has built his own studio and spends hours creating new EFX units and sound machines. Taking a fearless leap into millennium technology, he has recently innovated new tools and employed creative ideas designed to revolutionize the way we think of traditional deejay mixing. Kerri uses his deejay sets to inject a spirit into the dance floor. More than a mere deejay spinning records, his sets are "live" during which he remixes tracks whenever he can by incorporating keyboards, vocalists, percussionists, guitars, violins, horns, projector screens, laser synths or just his own excellent soulful voice. Cartoon life - At six years old, CORD LABUHN had his first real career aspiration : becoming an ‘inventor’. Or space traveller. At least working in some kind of laboratory. Hence he became a producer of beats, tunes, records, imagery & merch - and toured the whole planet to play music for the most spaced out...
Earlier, when the ghost of Jimi Hendrix jumped out of his parents record collection and passionately promoted the guitar as the weapon of choice for a leftist punk, folk, if not eurodance infected teenager of the 90s, the piano and his sister’s drumset would have to step back for a while. 

A few years later when TV was still the thing and gaming consoles like PS1 were battling N64, Cord the Beatmaker was rather staring at tiny AKAI S2000, MPC and CRT displays, head-nodding, turning the jogwheels, dreaming of a second turntable to complete his DJ setup - the true school, golden age hiphop way. Next mission - still as a school kid - was a self-released vinyl record with international distribution through a self-founded label – learning everything from scratch, only a few years before DJing went 99,9% digital, crazy fast and globalised anyway. 
Arriving in Berlin and founding the mashup label „BROKEN BOOTLEGS“ (with Exploited’s Shir Khan and Andy Szankay) was good sparring for more delinquent ventures in professional sampling culture. Musical diversion had found an anarchic playground, genre-bending seemed to be a welcome concept for a radical open mind.

To date, his longest running project is ROBOSONIC, which was originally formed as a DJ-producer duo together with Sacha Robotti more than 10 years ago. Over the course of time it became Cords solo moniker in the dance music game, since his former partner had emigrated to the US for a fresh personal start. 
A while after the unconventional, free-spirited debut album „Sturm und Drang“ (2007) Robosonic took the world by storm with a string of popular tunes and remixes that went into the crates of tens of thousands of DJs worldwide and made it to top spots in the infamous Beatport charts (“Worst Love”, “The Edge” 2012, “La Fique” 2013, “House Music” 2015, “Rise” 2016). With releases on labels like Defected, Toolroom, Get Physical, Diynamic, Stil vor Talent, Deep Dish’s Yoshitoshi, Nervous, Crew Love, Kittball or Mother Recordings, ROBOSONIC became an authentic figurehead for something dubbed “Golden Era House” (Juice Magazine). Not only because Cord was convincing real rap icons like Masta Ace, Jeru the Damaja and KRS-One to collaborate on house tracks, but also because ROBOSONIC remixed true legends like Todd Terry, Arthur Baker, Kerri Chandler and Eddie Amador.
The house & techno driven sets and records under the R°° flag are internationally recognised and performances in 45+ countries (and counting) reflect the universal appeal of a trademark sound Robosonic unleashed into the world. North & South America, most European countries, South East Asia, China and Russia, Egypt down to South Africa, Dubai to Australia, Lebanon and Israel. Cord Labuhn has seen and pleased hundreds of stages, clubs and crowds over the last years.
