Pinerolo is a restaurant in Oslo. I was commissioned by the owners to compile and mix three mixtapes. Their directives were rather vague, lending me an opportunity to pick from any genre, not care too much about how commercial the tracks were and just create an eclectic but cohesive compilation that would contribute to the relaxed vibe at Pinerolo. This is what I did.

Experiencing Burning Man for the first time and playing at White Ocean, facing the desert and distant mountains while the sun was setting was definitely a highlight of my year. In that surreal setting in front of a new crowd I took the opportunity to showcase my own music, new and old, so apart from track 2 & 3 this set consists only of my music. Big thanks to White Ocean for welcoming my Swedish folky and playful grooves! Enjoy..........

Mit unserer heutigen Nummer 114 präsentieren wir euch eine fantastische Afterhour vom Berliner DJ-Urgestein Madmotormiquel. 

Aufgewachsen ist Michi in den wilden 80er Jahren in West-Berlin. Ganz früh war für ihn klar --- Musik ist mein Ding. Beeinflusst von Punk-Rock und US Punk der späten 80er Jahre war ihm schnell klar das Musik-Genre-Grenzen nichts für ihn sind. Seine große Leidenschaft zum Hip-Hop ebnete dann auch den Weg zu den ersten elektronischen Produktionen.  Am Anfang mehr ein Party-DJ mit allen Genres die im so unterkamen, so entwickelte sich sein Stil im Laufe der Zeit mehr und mehr hin zum Techno und House. Erlebnisse wie seine erste Fusion Anfang 2000 entführten ihn dann endgültig in die wilde Party-Szene Berlins. Als Teil des Party-Kollektivs Bachstelzen veränderte er die Party-Szene Berlins mit aufwändigen Partys in Off-Locations nachhaltig. 

Seit 2006 fing er dann an seine eigenen Produktionen äußerst erfolgreich erst auf diversen Net-Labels zu veröffentlichen. Im Jahre 2010 folgte dann das erste Release zusammen mit Sebo und Nayan Soukie auf Sasse’s Label Mood Music.  Zusammen mit Sebo und Soukie&Windish gründete er dann 2010 das Label URSL-Records das sich schnell zum Aushängeschild des Berlin-Sounds entwickelte. 

Durch sein ganz spezielles Gefühl für den Dance-Floor ist Michi weltweit ein gefragter Mann hinter den Decks. Ob USA, Südamerika, Australien oder Afrika Burn … Michi ist da zu finden wo gute Partys entstehen, wie heute z.B. auf dem Feel-Festival ;-)

Auch gerade seine Podcasts haben es uns in den letzten Jahren sehr angetan. Den heutigen Podcast für Afterhour Sounds schickte er uns mit den Worten „istn bisschen länger und spezieller geworden“ was wir nur unterstreichen können … er läuft hier seit Tagen in der Dauerschleife. Michi vielen lieben Dank für deine Liebe zur Musik und dieses 2stündige Meisterwerk. Aber nun genug der Worte … liebe Hörer freut euch mit uns zusammen auf 2 Stunden Madmotormiquel in Reinform.

I like nature and music and I like deep dives into the depths of my own mind.

It’s becoming more and more obvious that my mind is really busy - way too busy. It is always exposed - constantly receiving and absorbing, processing and changing.

I have therefore become more cautious of what I want to let into consciousness and taking regular breaks from the endless stream of stimuli and simply paying close attention to my mind has helped me pierce through the spellbinding clutter of unstoppable thoughts. To me, what reveals itself on the other side is a profound state of
calm. A calm from which natural curiosity, playfulness and love can spring freely.

Music is a channel where I express this natural playfulness that I believe we all share deep inside. Playing my music on top of the Robot Heart bus at their ten year anniversary was one of those precious moments where I felt you were responding to this - we were playing together.

When you express a similar joy and playfulness to that which I create the music with we set a beautiful feedback loop into motion. Getting eye contact with you and seeing how me and my wobbly harmonica notes crack you up into a big smile affects me and really fires me up. 

Your response inspires me to create more and feel more and
express myself more. 

I would like to send a big fat virtual hug to everyone who rode their bikes deep out into the playa that morning and to Robot Heart for  making me part of the family.

Absolutely delighted to have The Scumfrog on Sunset Grooves. One of our all time favorite DJs and producers who can easily switch from upbeat grooves to chill out vibes to original classics is everything we strive for at Sunset Grooves. The 5th edition of his series "friends with boats", he kindly suggested to publish it on our podcast considering the grooves that flow throughout this mix is perfect for that sun setting in the background.

Not only a music lover he is a wonderful soul, down to earth, who is ready to talk about any subject with a big smile on his face! For that we would like to say thank you for this exceptional mix.
