I was thinking about all the long waits in line for Burning Man tickets over the years and decided to give some of you something to listen to while the walking person icon slowly makes its way across the screen holding all our hopes in its little tiny pixel hands. 

The wait time  is usually about as long as it took to get from one side of the playa to the other last year after it rained and the playa shrimp rose up to attempt to take over the world!! 

Burning Mud. Mudding man. Raining man. Remember the wild stories (all from the outside media or Diplo and Chris Rock) vs the kindness and generosity of strangers out on the playa. I hope, even if faced with adversity last year, maybe, just maybe, you also saw how wonderful people can be when called upon in a ‘crisis’. 

I was lucky enough to stay until Tuesday night and grateful to still get to play a sunrise on the Robot Heart albeit a few days later than planned. There was so much love in the air that (finally) beautiful morning. If you missed it or want to listen once more or are just bored and looking for something to distract you while waiting in line for this years tickets (I’ll be waiting too) then here’s burning man/mud/magic 2023.  Feel the love in the air and the tickle of playa shrimp on the soles of your feet.

An immersive journey through deep, melodic soundscapes — this 6-minute instrumental blends the hypnotic pulse of deep house with the emotional depth of melodic techno. Built around a warm analog bassline and a steady four-on-the-floor rhythm, the track evolves organically with shimmering pads, airy percussion, and evolving arpeggios that flow like waves at sunset. Layers of texture rise and fade, revealing moments of calm introspection and slow, cinematic tension. Every element breathes with space and warmth, from the subtle crackle of ambience to the smooth transitions that carry the listener forward. It’s both meditative and kinetic perfect for late-night drives, sunset sets, or deep headphone sessions. My essential mix was created with a sunrise set on the robot heart bus in mind out at Burning man, 2015. I played the actual set at BM pretty much the same time this mix was broadcast on Radio one. I don't usually plan mixes out but for this one special occasion I purposely created a similar flow and some of the mixes featured here. Enjoy!

I like to imagine sometimes where the music will travel to. Who it will be given to or shared with. Whether it will be played at an after party in London or listened to on a set of headphones while watching the sun rise from behind a mountain in Tibet. I wonder which tracks you'll fall in love with instantly and which will grow on you as time passes. 

I know this is a really long mix and the journey into it and out the other side takes some commitment but, on the plus side, it saves you having to look for anything else to play for ages and ages.

 I hope you love the tracks as much as I do and thanks for listening.

Lee Burridge - Requiem For A Daydream

Fred P’s music is not just deep, but spiritual. Under his own name as well as Black Jazz Consortium, FP-Oner and FP197, the man from Queens, New York imbues his bottomless grooves with pensive pads and emotionally loaded keys that sink you into another dimension. His DJ sets are also cathartic experiences for mind, body and soul, and he’s remained hugely prolific over the course of more than 11 LPs and 20 EPs during the last decade. His eternal aim is “to raise each other's consciousness”, and he never fails to do that whether playing all night long at one of his residences or serving up releases on his own Soul People Music. In October, that label came to an end after more than a decade, only to make way for Perpetual Sound, which launched with a new Black Jazz Consortium EP featuring remixes from Mr G and Fred P. 

His emotionally awakening style is present and correct on this 90 minute mix he serves up for us. It starts with warm and cavernous atmospheres and the sort of balmy pads and tight basslines that define his sound, before progressing into a zoned out techno sound. Always smooth and meditative, moments of jazzy musicality are never far away, and there is a timeless nature to everything Fred does. Without him, then, dance music wouldn’t be anywhere near as deep.

My warm up for Nobu at an amazing little party in the hills of Mullumbimby. It was Sunday afternoon event with Nobu playing 4 hours (6-10pm) which was nothing but incredible. We'd had a huge night before at Andromeda Festival where he also played and were all pretty fragile so I tried to keep things deep and nurturing and leave it wide open for master Nobu. Always very special and a pure occasion with the Vitamin-Q parties :)

That night…Nobu's DJ set on the bush dance floor in the mountains was borderless, genreless and one and only groove. It was like splashing a white paint on the night sky, we were feeling the groove while our consciousness was almost sucked into the Milky Way, and we experienced the magical moments of that the sound and soul and body became one.

This is a live recording from Behrouz set at "The House Of Mandy", which took place at Kater Blau. He played right after a phenomenal set from Raz Ohara and he kept the "Playa-Vibes" elegant and with a meaning for the next two hours. Chill out and enjoy his idea of "Deep Desert House" in the heart of Berlin. We were celebrating his birthday in the same night and you can feel the positive festive vibes all over his set. Enjoy! 

BEHROUZ, our good friend and longterm fella is well known in the scene, easily recognized both on the Playa where he has held a highly coveted residency on the Robot Heart bus, as owner / curator of Do Not Sit events, including his own club in Miami Beach. He is well known all over the world having been a household name for those who truly know what's up for well over two decades now. An artist who has seen nearly every inch of the globe as he has shared his music with millions from continent to continent, his name and reputation proceeds him. A DJ's DJ in every sense of the word, Behrouz is a favorite amongst many of the most talented artists and producers on the planet. He is a true story teller and a magician behind the decks evoking powerful emotions through his sound.

Lee Burridge - DISTRIKT - Burning Man 2019

It’s been a while since I played DISTRIKT last. After this years experience I’m somewhat kicking myself. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crowd at Burning Man so wild and fun. The party was electric. Fire! And, it was only Tuesday. ‘Pacing it’ was obviously out of the question for the five thousand or so that joined me. The Robot Heart bus rolled up and plugged in. Hoj tore the place up before me. Our day party extended into night and most of us left with a smile on our faces and an electricity that carried us forward. Beautiful people swung above the crowd in a birdcage (is that safe I kept asking myself in my head)and hips wiggled and swung while the multi-level dance floor bumped and bounced. Basically, best day party at Burning Man ever ever. So, thank you DISTRIKT for giving me an extended set and an amazing party to play. Let’s do it again next year. It’s a date?

I'm a sometimes DJ and collector of music across digital and vinyl formats. I've been spinning since '93 and find inspiration in a wide range of styles including deep house, minimal, dub techno, techno, drum n bass. Mostly retired and have been living in Sydney since 2021. I present a regular show on global radio station BPM Radio every Friday 8am UK/5pm Sydney.

Robot Heart is a collective of doers and dreamers, artists and entrepreneurs. Our home is in the desert dust of Burning Man, and the streets of New York City, Detroit, Bay Area and Hong Kong. Home is wherever the Heart is.
