Mike, your list of jibo, anki, etc. - robots in this same vein that have failed - is the pile I was referencing. Btw, I'm fine lol. I'm just so disappointed in this robot that is backed by a huge team and seemingly unlimited resources. I think you nailed it - Astro shows a "lack of imagination". You obliterated their value proposition. As for privacy concerns, I think there are a few things to consider: Ethos of the company behind the device or robot matters for consumer trust. Much bigger than that is the value a device or robot provides for us that we're willing to give up privacy for. Another factor to consider is the embodiment of that "spy". A phone is a box that becomes an extension of our hands that we can control, whereas Astro is a spy moving around your house that's far more suspect of invasion of privacy. Astro is expensive, a privacy threat, and DOESN'T DO ANYTHING. They could have taped the fire tablet and ring camera to the top of a Roomba and made a better robot.

Esben Østergaard:  EU AI Act will stifle robotics innovation

Today’s episode recaps a major week for autonomous vehicles. Cruise co-founder, CTO and president Kyle Vogt hailed the first driverless robotaxi ride in SF, Waymo started to map New York City and Nuro raised another $600M for its autonomous delivery vehicles. And we don’t even mention Aurora debuting on the Nasdaq, FedEx testing autonomous delivery in China, and Autobrains raising $101 million for its unsupervised AI for autonomous vehicles.

You'll also hear from James DeSmet, president and CEO of CRG Automation. The company built a robotic system to help decommission a stockpile of 70,000 chemical missiles at a base in Kentucky. James walks us through the challenges of the project.
