Today marks the longest day in the northern hemisphere, the summer solstice, a time to embrace the energy of growth and transformation. Yet, for some of us who  are in pain, struggling, grieving loss, the days can seem endless, yet without warmth, and the nights, no matter how short, so very dark. Sometimes we need to endure these times alone, working through them, at other times it's important we reach out to those who love and care for us, as they may be able to help, and sometimes the person you need the most is yourself.

As a phase of my healing ends, and I ok to change focus, a quote comes back to me that I saw before I began the healing journey…

“Imagine being bitten by a snake and instead of trying to help yourself heal and recover from the poison, you try to catch the snake, to find out the reason it bit you.” (Trigger warning - this is not about absolving abusers, it’s purely about healing). 

Before I started this journey, I thought there was something fundamentally wrong with me, and I did not connect it with the great sadness I felt from my childhood.  Then I met someone, and it was like going from the cold dark days of winter to the bright warm sunshine of Summer. A single conversation changed my life forever. I began to realize what was hurting me was not myself, but wounds I had suffered. I’m glad that due to my nature I did not seek out understanding of why these wounds were inflicted, but how to heal them. That has led me down dark paths, brightened only by love, strength and courage from another and my own desire to be me. It’s been a journey of embracing long held pain, acceptance, rather than bitterness, even forgiveness rather than blame, and finally gratitude for the good I was given when I was young. I’m lucky, my situation is unique, and while I suffered life changing wounds, I was not terribly abused.

Wow, sorry for being so heavy, but as I said, a huge phase of my healing is done, doesn’t mean I’m whole, but I am much less broken now, and putting the pieces of me back together.

I've an odd format - I pick 16 new tracks each week, mostly from ZipDJ, and put them together to make a set, I don't pick tracks which go together, just what I really like.
