Rhythm games are near and dear to my heart, I grew up playing them all the time and going to the arcade on weekends and after school is one of my fondest childhood memories, so I thought I would pay tribute to that with this version of Charlene from the classic ITG series, I might tackle songs from other series (coughsDDRcoughs) soon!

Here are three tracks I wrote for the demo title Marla and the Elemental Rings, submitted to the 2021 Game Boy Competition. These are the original LSDj versions, which were then transcribed and modified to be readable by gbt player. It was a blast working on this game and I learned a ton of new things, mostly about how challenging writing for gameboy hardware can be, nevertheless I hope you enjoy these three little tracks!

I'm a big fan of post-rock bands such as This Will Destroy You and Godspeed You! Black Emperor so I tried to recreate something in this style using LSDj, this track was the result of that experiment, a soft rising and descending minor scale that gives way to furiously modulating square waves and noise sounds. This track was written entirely on a gameboy, but some volume correction and reverb effects were added in post-processing.

I have included the SAV file using the link below in case anyone is interested, I made extensive use of tables and the Z (random) command to achieve most of the effects. This track was written on LSDj Version 9.1.C, so previous versions might not work.

this is my first album. it's a collection of songs inspired by how stars live and die. it was written mostly using a gameboy and it is deeply influenced by the thousands of hours spent listening to progressive rock when i was a kid.
