"THE REFERENDUM ON THE UK'S MEMBERSHIP OF THE EU HAS HAD APPALLING CONSEQUENCES. IT HAS AMPLIFIED MANY DIVISIONS IN SOCIETY AND IN PARTICULAR HAS HELPED TO RE-ESTABLISH XENOPHOBIA AS LEGITIMATE AND ACCEPTABLE. WITNESSING THIS AGAINST THE GLOBAL BACKDROP OF A RESURGENCE OF THE FAR-RIGHT, IT'S ESSENTIAL THAT THOSE WHO FIND THESE DEVELOPMENTS UNACCEPTABLE MAKE THEIR THOUGHTS KNOWN AND TAKE ACTION.

THIS PIECE OF MUSIC WAS WRITTEN IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE REFERENDUM AND I PRESENT IT AS THE BASIS OF AN INTERNATIONALIST COLLABORATION WITH SOUND MAKERS IRRESPECTIVE OF WHAT KIND OF MUSIC THEY MAKE, WHERE THEY LIVE, THEIR BACKGROUND, THEIR AGE - ALL ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE. IT IS NOT OFFERED AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR PROGRESSIVE POLITICAL ACTION BUT AS A COMPLEMENT TO IT. I PUT IT FORWARD IN DEFIANCE OF THE BIGOTRY THREATENING THE FRAGILE CONNECTIONS THAT EXIST BETWEEN US ALL. Grace Petrie is a folk singer and songwriter from Leicester, UK. She first exploded into the national consciousness in 2010 with the emotive anthem Farewell to Welfare, which captured perfectly the spirit of the new wave of dissent in austerity Britain. Since then, she has written, recorded and toured relentlessly in the UK and North America. Her unique takes on life, love and politics, and the warmth and wit with which they are delivered have won over audiences everywhere, and she has quietly become one of the UK’s most respected and prolific songwriters working today.

Grace has performed at every Glastonbury Festival and all but one Latitude since 2010 , as well as at Vancouver Folk Festival, End of the Road, Greenbelt, Off the Tracks, Summer Sundae, Shrewsbury Folk, Blissfields, Towersey Folk, Handmade and Sidmouth Folk.
She is part of ‘Coven’ the folk supergroup with O’Hooley and Tidow and Lady Maisery, and dueted with Charlotte Church at Hammersmith Apollo in 2016. As part of the JC4PM tour, she performed alongside Francesca Martinez, Jeremy Hardy, Charlotte Church and She Drew The Gun, and has toured regularly with Robin Ince, Josie Long and Emmy the Great.

Grace is a regular guest on BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show and a contributor to the ‘Who’s Angry now’ protest music documentary.
