Juno Download Podcast - Nice Up! Records With Shep

More remixes from the acclaimed "Deeply Rooted" album by Nottingham's finest exponent of reggae and dancehall, Origin One. Picking up where Volume 1 left off, here we find more previously unreleased reworks of tracks from the album that first found support from the likes of David Rodigan, Don Letts, Toddla T, Steve Lamaqc and many more.

Kicking things off is Robot Riddims computerised soca working of "World Peace" featuring Russian reggae don Tenor Youthman. Fellow Notts producers MNTX get to grips with Soom T on "Jah Jah" offering a lighter reflection of Danny T & Tradesman's reworking found on Volume 1. Next, Rukus go deep on "High Grade" with K.O.G. on vocals whilst Congi go even deeper on the instrumental "Dread & Buried" taking the track into unchartered dub depths.

LXNDLXRD flexes his 2 step garage meets grime remix of "Gyal A Wine Up", chopping up XL Mad's vocals, then we find Metalheadz very own Zero T, giving the anthemic "Tribute" his trademark sparse-yet-full production stamp. More drum & bass comes with Born On Road's Kelvin 373 and Selecta J-Man going heavy on the classic "High Grade" again, finishing off with T-Kay's lively rerub of Gardna & Nanci Correia's "Nice & Easy".

Most definitely a little of something for everybody!

Since people have been able to have parties again, I've been at a LOT of parties, usually DJing, but occasionally getting to have fun too. If I hadn't gurned them down to stumps then you might argue I'm getting a bit long in the tooth to be going to parties all the time, what with a young family and other commitments now too. And you'd probably be right - especially if you were my wife. Which you're not. But my wife is, and this was written from her perspective - somewhat ironically in my van when I had a bit of spare time whilst working at someone's party. Even more ironically, I recorded this last night, my first Saturday night off from DJing since lockdown lifted, when really I should have been taking the opportunity to hang out with her. Anyway, there you go, I'm a bastard. Hope you like it.

Futuristic riddims sent back through a wormhole by a band of post-apocalyptic reggae loving robots. 
Created with that concept and the motto Strictly Lo-Fi for your Hi-Fi in mind, Robot Riddims’ official debut Rude Mechanicals combines the sound of chiptune, a love of 1980s dancehall and a trusty circuit-bent 1988 Kawai drum machine into a four track sure shot.
The EP kicks off with the future/past dancehall sound and disembodied android deejaying of “RoboRockers”, before continuing with a nod to more recent JA beats with the crunchy drums and cheerfully skittering 8 bit arps of “Skynet Party”.
Next up the noisy, anarchic “True Grit” pushes the bit crushed lo-fi sound to the extreme to create a truly brutal groove, before the release is rounded off with the dubbed out and stripped down “RoboDubbers” version of the EP’s first track.
And remember: Resistance is Futile.

"Ai Weilai" was originally created as part of a production challenge focused on what the music of our future might sound like in 2030. The title means "Love the Future" in Mandarin and was used as a soundalike substitution by supporters of artist Ai Weiwei when his name was censored on social network Weibo.

This will the be first single in a forthcoming series of "Data Packet" releases.
