F.B.I Lift

Derived from a study into the sonority of a Pianoforte. Composed April 2014 using pen and paper and Sibelius programming software.

Sonorous (Robért Roblou Op.2)

With a penchant for taking an absurdly positive predisposition when faced with soul crushing negative opinion, this piece was ignited by failure when attending an interview for a Masters degree at the University of Nottingham. Deemed that the compositions presented to the residing Professor were “a little basic”, this composition was fuelled by a sense of determination and a simplistic muse of a squirrel scampering through the university grounds. This muse lead to mimicking the rhythmic pattern and what was to be interpreted as the sonic melody. The majority of the score has been extended into both registers. Starting from bar 1-6 is the main theme with content mirroring and rhythmic embellishment through subjective deletion from bar 8-15. Bar 16 sees a return to the most enjoyable* thematic event within the piece before highlighting the original compressed full theme at bar 19. The piece finalises with a return to the enjoyable* thematic construct.

The genus of this melding; two parts to form a subjectively more concurrent piece, dated back to an earlier Musical Direction module of which the two original parts were specifically composed. The two pieces were inspired by a fledging infatuation with minimalist contemporary composers, specifically influence from Morton Feldman’s piece Rothko Chapel & Piano Four Hands and Fur Alina by Arvo Part.
The two original works entitled An Exercise in Audience Tolerance Part 1and 2 used the premise of Feldman’s sparse nature and provided a platform to extend the boundaries of resonance within a piece while diminishing the tempo accordingly to extend the full sound of the harmonic structure including an individual’s perception of consonance and dissonance. 
This unified arrangement played on pianoforte via four hands, provides an opportunity to cherry pick the best of each piece and make further adaptations to the duet. However listening back to the final arrangement, I feel that this could have been better presented due to the two pieces seem disjointed when mixed.

A processional and dramatic piece with a hint or uncertainty and reassurance.
