Some people are just not destined to have enough sleep. When you don’t sleep enough the world appears to be a different place, compared to the way it is when the mind is fully rested. In such cases very different scenarios may occur.

Starting with a dreamy melody of Roma Zuckerman’s “Sleep not found”, which inspired the entire Трип 008 album, and ending with a thirteen minute live recording by a_000, the side project of Alex Backdrop, the entire record has a dreamy and tripped out flow.

трип 008 continues the tradition of gatefold double EPs as conceptual album.All tracks are selected around a particular story, a trip, and presented as a continuous sonic landscape.All tracks are structured in a way that they can be mixed one with another an endless amount of times making a continuous loop, a trip, that needs only end when the party stops. Kraviz works without release dates or deadlines, enabling her to achieve a certain sound bank to shape the story, unmasking the thoughts and unravelling like a dream.

They all arrive in a unique sleeve especially created for this series, inspired by the decorations of NWB. Justin Cudmore is the latest in the line of midwesterners to emerge from the Brooklyn music scene, hailing originally from Illinois. And you can hear it in his music, that mesmerizing midwestern groove and deep heady thoughtfulness. He debuted on Honey Soundsystem Records, has released on The BunkerNY and is member of Hot Mix, a DJ trio that also includes Mike Servito and Gunnar Haslam.

Branko, a newcomer from Norrköping on the east coast of Sweden, presents „Kao Staklo“. Having previously featured tracks on the critically acclaimed „A beginners guide to Norrköping Techno“ , a release curated by his fellow countryman Nihad Tule and Inter Gritty aka NTTA11; the young Swede takes center stage with his UИCAGΞ debut.

Top and tailing the EP with his two originals Branko opens with „Oprosti“. A melodic number featuring a floating chord over a sharp beat. This is followed by the first of two remixes of „Kao Staklo“. Darren Roberts aka Deepbass rolls out one of his trademark reworks with a deep and trippy seven-minute opus.

The B side opens with Swedish mastermind Skudge who delivered a groovy and psychedelic minimal remix of „Kao Staklo“, before we´re finally introduced to the original title track with its misty atmospheres and melancholic grooves. A rock solid first release.

Following on from the 2017 LP Paradygm Shift by Robert Hood released on Dekmantel Records, the Detroit legend returns to the imprint to deliver the final installment in a trilogy of EP releases that initially began back in February 2016. Now based in Alabama, the Detroit-techno producer is returning to his roots. Embracing the trademark, minimal, funk techno sounds that defined his earlier career, Paradygm Shift Vol. 3 is classic Hood, operating in new, and uncharted ways.

The EP is an extension on the concept as outlayed by Hood during the project’s conceptual stage: ‘‘The idea behind Paradygm Shift is similar to a shift in our focus. We can become so complacent; we are so comfortable with our surroundings, I think this is the time for electronic music to find a new mindset.’’ Kicking off off with ‘Red Machine’, where again parallels can be drawn between the days of Minimal Nation, and Internal Empire – the sound is sparse and brutalistic, representing a challenged future. A progressive melody syncopates along the tracks percussive, backbone, arching its way into the track’s eventual demise. On the B-side, ‘Transform’ provides a composition of stripped, down electro, while taking in the 606 style, and adding additional, textural depth. It’s a track full of subtle melody, and high-ranging claps, that make ‘Transform’ the perfect transitional tool, and standalone floor-filler at the same time.

‘Red Machine’ and ‘Transform’ reflect Hood’s modern take on challenging techno. Meditative in their sequenced repetition, the tracks draw you in with their audacious, and memorizing sequences. It’s contemporary techno, albeit techno that reflects Hood’s style and nature. Pulsating, electrifying, with dark undertones, and very much of that Detroit flavour.

After establishing their Indigo Aera label over the last seven years, Amsterdam figures Jasper Wolff & Maarten Mittendorff now step up onto Delsin with a four track debut EP which includes a remix from the legendary Sterac. 

Jasper Wolff & Maarten Mittendorff are long time players on the Amsterdam scene as residents at De School, esteemed label bosses who have put out music by the likes of Kirk Degiorgio, Stephen Brown and Louis Haiman, and as producers with a richly atmospheric dub techno sound. When Steve Rachmad aka Sterac heard these tracks he liked them so much he asked to help with the mix down, and also provided a dub version of the title track. It completes a package of deep and artful techno that is laced with beautiful ambience.

Opener ‘Tesseract’ is a perfect example of that: one the course of ten minutes it evolves from an ambient piece of gently evolving keys into a driving dub techno cut that will work as a perfect set opener. ‘Astrava’ is a piece astral techno with solar winds and cosmic energy swirling round a broken beat pattern, and ‘Hyperion’ gets a little trippy with edgy synth riffs rippling above techno drums which are filled with suspense and tension. The Sterac dub then reworks ‘Tesseract’ into a cerebral piece of cavernous techno that is hunched and on its toes as the synths twists and turn to bring real scale. Each piece here is as mindful as it is physical, making this a special EP overall.

The label ZIEMIA (Polish for EARTH) is centred around a growing group of friends from Poland. Administered by Bartosz Kruczyński (Earth Trax), Adam Brocki and Jan Wójcicki (Private Press), it is a natural extension of a studio in the heart of Warsaw, where the majority of their music is being created. Ambient sounds and club vibes make the foundation layers of this collaboration, and you can see this theme evolving in some of their first releases on labels such as Growing Bin, Shall Not Fade, Indigo Aera, Phonica Records and Dopeness Galore. ZIEMIA's focus positions itself between club music and ethereal with an Eastern European background.

The first release encaptures a moment when all three label founders started to utilise dub techniques in their club sound. Private Press explore an ethereal side of techno, which is in contrast to the duoís previous releases. A1 and A3 are essentially beatless and meditative, while B2 plunges into reggae sounds with a pulsating kick drum, strong bassline and plucking synthesizers emerging from an echo chamber. Earth Trax expresses a darker sound, all with biting stabs, deep sub and frenzied pads on A2. As we flip to B1 (when heís teaming up with Newborn Jr. again) the release develops an ambient house feel (as featured on a couple of previous records) with a slightly more experimental approach.
