Coming in strong for mix 034 of our podcast series, we are absolutely delighted to welcome, old school Veteran, DJ Sykik.

Having cut his teeth in Hardcore, Jungle, House, Garage and Grime from as early as 1997, Sykik has established himself as an ever-present force in the underground dance music scene in the UK. Whether it be pirate radio shows around Essex, club sets around London and Essex's main circuit, or shelling down London radio stations such as Rinse and Deja Vu, DJ Sykik was there with a bag of freshly cut dubplates and the latest underground anthems of the time. More recently, you may have come across Sykik through his  limited-run dubplate series, Pirate Cutz, alongside Rossy C. 

This mix contains old underground rarities and a load of unreleased and forthcoming tracks from the likes of Harry Luda, Damn Right Productions, Tuff Jam, Perception, D Dubz, Crazy Bank, Fresh Milk and Dee Cypher. Strictly Vinyl.

As the last couple in the "Selected Vinyls" series, I am focusing on the UKG-era - here of the alltime brilliant producer Steve Gurley. As the first volumes revolved around the beats and bass from El-B, he himself is earlier cited for "There were no influences in that scene for me at the time [around year 2000], only Steve Gurley", so on that note, the mixtape in front of you displays Steve Gurleys work inside a UK garage frame. Rocket Dubz is an electrifying DJ/Producer duo that consists of industry veterans Dave Deller, best known for his work on the iconic track "What You Want" under Industry Standard, and James Kelly. This dynamic pair made their official debut on the Garage scene in November 2018 with the release of the ‘Crazy EP,’ marking the beginning of an impressive journey filled with a string of successful releases. Their body of work showcases their talent for crafting original tracks and vocals, all written and produced entirely by themselves.

Rocket Dubz has had the opportunity to collaborate with notable artists, including Redrum from "The Voice" under their alias "Del-Toro," and the legendary Brian Harvey from East 17. Their distinctive sound and production skills have quickly caught the attention of some of the biggest names in the UK Garage scene, including the legendary DJ EZ, Shosh, Matt Jam Lamont, and even DJ Q.

In addition to their impressive production work, Rocket Dubz also runs their own label, Mercenary Kutz, which has become a platform for their innovative sounds and further cemented their presence in the music industry.
