Oscilla Sound welcomes Andriy K. to its Liminal catalogue with 'Poetry of the Vanished Territories', an audiovisual exploration of central and southern Ukraine's landscapes, capturing memories of fading places that linger between what was and what remains.
Using open source data and field recordings from the corresponding locations, Andriy K. and pryvyd layer abstract compositions with fragments of reality, blending nature and memory.
The journey begins with 'Lybid,' a tribute to one of the oldest rivers in Kyiv, that endures in its fight for existence. The diptych 'Kinburn Before' and 'Kinburn After' tells the story of a sandy stretch in the northwest of the Kinburn Peninsula, nestled between the Dnieper-Bug estuary and the Black Sea. Continuing the path, 'Ozon Dub' transforms matter's state, with water gradually giving way to gas, only to revert back to the salty depths on 'Oily Sea'. 
An archive of the transient, 'Poetry of the Vanished Territories' invites you on a journey through the spaces in-between.

Il y existe un chêne blanc en l’Etat uni de Georgia. Au décès d’un certain colonel Jackson autour des années 1820, son testament indique : That the said W.H.Jackson for and in consideration of the great affection which he bears said tree, and his great desire to see it protected has conveyed, and by these presents do convey unto the said oak tree entire possession of itself and of all land within eight feet [2.4 m] of it on all sides.

The Tree That Own Itself aurait germé autour du milieu du XVIème siècle et c'est deux siècles plus tard qu'il obtient un droit légal à disposer de lui-même. En 1942, la foudre lui tombe dessus, il se rompt, chute, et devient chablis. Mais c’était sans compter sur le germe d'un de ses glands planté et qui lui succède dans ses droits en tant que Son of the Tree That Own Itself.

C'est une fable, une anecdote, mais par son caractère grossièrement anthropomorphique, et assez rare pour nous esquisser un rictus, elle nous met finalement en face des manquements profonds de nos ressources imaginaires pour penser "l'arbre" et le vivant dans la pensée occidentale. 
L'histoire nous dit voici l'individu arbre, voici le père et voici son fils. Voici l'espace de sa croissance potentielle, périmètre du devenir de l'individu arbre.... Mais toujours, l'identité de l'arbre nous échappe et se dissous dans un tissu interconnecté. L'identité transmute, se meut et se floute.

J'ai poussé la fantaisie fictionnelle à imaginer une sorte de centre de cure et bien être pour les arbres. Les arbres y viendraient avec leurs deux jambes pour se ressourcer la sève. Pour prendre des bains de boue, des massages d'écorce pour défaire leur nœuds, pour regagner une verdure d'antan, retrouver du cœur au feuillage et cicatriser les initiales d'amoureux gravées. Les arbres viennent prendre répit des termites, des fourmis, des piverts, des champignons, des pucerons... mais surtout des coulées de bétons, et lames d'acier. Voici la bande son que je m'imagine dans un tel environnement. C'est un trait d'esprit pour essayer à partir de mes lunettes et sensations humaines de m'imaginer pousser quelques racines et devenir un humanoïde feuillu qui se possède lui-même.

RexL) to COLA REN’s dreamy seabed roll, the filmic nostalgia of eoin DJ’s Things In Life, and the more danceable sound of E-Talking’s Être un autre ohm, each track is a love letter to every corner of the Aquarium’s deep blue.

The selection is curated by the team behind Fandango, and will be donating all profits to the marine conservation charity Blue Ventures. The charity was chosen to contribute back to marine life without which sounds and swells of aquatic bass could not exist. Blue Ventures works with small-scale local cultures and economies to support their natural ecosystems, ensuring a fair distribution of resources.

Venturing deeper and darker, ‘bassbassbass’ turns to a ravey 2-step groove. The title track ‘Reimagining’ is emotional jungle designed for sunrise catharsis, featuring harp flourishes by Genevieve Fry. Wobbling, glitchy, experimental bass weapon ‘Leah’ - named after Rita’s grandmother - closes the EP with electric energy.

Smooch Soundsystem is the opening act of LINTD’s three-part project, reclaiming Black Utopia through the technologies of sound.

Emerging from the collaborative force of Nigerian negro-gothic musician LINTD and Sheffield producer Porter Brook, this piece was recorded live at the White Hotel in December 2022.

Smooch Soundsystem celebrates the machines of a pro-Black utopia by centralising the Soundsystem as an extension of the human form, acting as the interface between flesh, technology, and community. Rooted in call and response, the performance centralises the Soundsystem as the mechanism of this symbiosis.

LINTD captures the innocence and tension of hope, as well as the struggle to reclaim one's existence in a world where rest is denied to Black bodies, even in death. By channelling Sun Ra’s call to be “endless, immeasurable, eternal, impossible,” LINTD invokes the power of speculative world-building to explore a Black utopia of immeasurable abundance.

“The first step in acknowledging the impossible dream: to create, preserve, and crystallise Black Utopia within our music, our art, our filmmaking, and our speculative world-building practice.”
