Raver Jack is off the hook with its quirky sounds and dope vocals.
 
Germany’s Sven Tasnadi has long been an associate of Moon Harbour and its sister label Cargo Edition, as well as released his deep take on house on labels like Smallville and Poker Flat. Here he returns to the label for the second time this year following his joint EP with Dan Drastic, and Stop Talking features two original tracks plus remixes from label favourite Sable Sheep and electronic pioneer Steve Bug.

First up is the title track, a lively brew of jangling and tinkling percussive edges underpinned with firmly rooted drums. Like a mirage on a hot day, the percussion glistens above the slinky house beats as steel drum like melody line rises up and down throughout the mix. It’s fresh and colourful and is the sort of thing that gets and keeps people dancing.

The first of the two remixes comes from Poker Flat chief Steve Bug. He goes in a little firmer with his re-interpretation, adding weight and thump to the kick drums and threads a more surging, late night melody stream into the track. It makes for a fluid and infectious groove before Sable Sheep ups the ante once again. His chattering claps jitter across the track’s surface as deep and loopy bass vamps bring plenty of depth to proceedings. Tooting melody stabs help bring a ravey edge and means there is a version of this track for every different situation.

Finally, Sven Tasnadi turns in “Raver Jack”, a tight and minimalist arrangement that has curious synth hooks and alien sounds buried deep within the chunky drums. Building ever more frantically to a tripped out peak of weird sounds and bendy tones, it’s the sort of track that stands out from a set and stays lodged in your brain long after it finishes.

This is another fantastic offering from Sven Tasnadi made all the more essential thanks to the fantastic remixes from Steve Bug and Sable Sheep.

This is 90% the selection played at Outro Lado on Thursday afternoon at Waking Life 2022. Thanks to the fantastic crowd for the open-mindedness and the energetic dancing. Also much appreciated the various personal feedback!

Anathema Podcast 032 - Pauke Schaumburg

Nobby and Kenno grew up in a small county called Schaumburg, near Hanover (Lower Saxony, Germany). A few years ago they were known as Solo-DJs in local clubs and private partys. So it took a little time and a good bottle of absinthe until they finally decided to work together behind the mixer. "Pauke Schaumburg" was born. At that time their musical taste was influenced by the sound of the mid-nineties: techno, house and hard trance played a major role in Kennos and Nobbys record rack. Gradually developed the typical sound of Pauke Schaumburg: „The listener definitely expects a melodic and synthesizer-heavy sound. A track has to be able to trigger emotions - a set has to be a bit of a story - and in our opinion that works best with note sequences combined with synthesizer modulations. This can turn out to be in the mood from meloncholic to euphoric.“
