Craig Chaquico, platinum-selling guitarist and songwriter with Jefferson Starship and chart-topping Smooth Jazz solo artist, takes a walk on the bluesier side of the street with the release of his Blind Pig debut, Fire Red Moon.

From the radio-friendly opening track, “Lie To Me,” (with vocal by Noah Hunt of the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band) to the thunderous conclusion of Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads,” Chaquico explores the thoroughfares and back alleys where blues and rock intersect.  There’s an instrumental version of Albert King’s signature tune, “Born Under A Bad Sign,” a rousing cover of Muddy Waters’ “Rollin’ And Tumblin’,” and sterling originals that echo the sounds of blues/rock forerunners such as Cream, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, and Steely Dan.  There’s even an instrumental tune entitled “Blue On Blue” that would appeal to Craig’s many smooth jazz fans.

Tim Duffy has devoted the last two decades of his life to the Music Maker Relief Foundation, a non-profit that helps musicians in the South that have fallen on hard times. In late 1995, around the time the organization launched, he found himself in a New York brownstone with Eric Clapton. "Eric noticed the 1930 Martin 00-18 sitting in the corner," Duffy says. "When Eric began to play, it was spellbinding and among the most amazing musical moments of my life. I picked up my guitar and quickly tuned it a half-step up to match his and began to play some back up guitar licks that I learned from Guitar Gabriel."

The duo recorded a cover of "Mississippi blues" by Willie Brown that Duffy has recently dug up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Music Maker Relief Foundation. "Music Maker is a fabulous project," says Clapton, "real evidence that the music I have always loved is alive and well."

I CANT EXPLAIN

This is exceptional blues the way it was meant to be played. Complete emersion in the sounds and feelings of the boogie with enough power and magic to overwhelm you like a hurricane or the Mississippi leaving its banks. This album rocks and provides enough power to make any blues fan happy. It will help light the fire on your grill and spice up any party on the back porch. With the help of guests like John Colianni, Angel Rose, Henry Butler, Don Lopez, and Eric R. Durham you are left with nothin' missing.
From the moment you put this disc in the player it rocks. The keys, drums, bass and other instruments only enhance what 'Murch' is already delivering through the chords. Powers' rendition of Hendrix' famous 'Spanish Castle Magic' is a highlight, as is the blues classic 'Shake Your Money Maker'. 'I Ain't Superstitious' is a wonderful song like a meandering river full of life. The title track is excellent with it entertaining keys. Duane Allman was one of the defining musicians of our era, rated second only to Jimi Hendrix in Rolling Stone's list of rock's 100 greatest guitarists. A founding member, with his brother Gregg, of the Allman Brothers Band, Duane was also active as a session musician, and as a member of the all-star Derek and the Dominos. This seven CD set, produced by Duane's daughter Galadrielle Allman and esteemed reissue producer Bill Levenson, shows the full breadth and depth of Duane's work, from early recordings (with Gregg) in bands such as The Escorts, Allman Joys and Hour Glass; to his studio work with Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Boz Scaggs, Delaney & Bonnie, Ronnie Hawkins and many others; to a live jam session with the Grateful Dead. The set includes several unreleased performances, many classic Allman Brothers songs, and a collector's cache of rare singles and long out-of-print album tracks. Also included are a 72 page book with essays by Scott Schindler and Galadrielle Allman, many rare photographs, a replica of Duane's guitar pick, and a Skydog sticker.
