Slam presents a brand new series of carefully curated VA’s on home label Soma.

Aimed at showcasing exciting, emerging artists "Exhibit" aims to channel techno's fundamental frequencies as Slam seek out the rawer, deeper end of the spectrum with selected artists, focussing on the deeper and hypnotic sound of techno.

Exhibit 2 rocks out another 8 tracks and sees Slam open proceedings once again. Their track ‘Exhibit 2’ exudes that typical Slam sound; controlled minimalism with a cerebral dose of exciting synth work and driving, hypnotic percussion. Rising Colombian producer Diego Oroquieta, who makes his full Soma debut in early 2024, delivers the dark and twisted ‘Friccion Corporal’ a slow burner that builds the pressure throughout. A Soma favourite, Klint, is up next with his driving and attitude packed ‘The Encounter’ before another South American export, Michel Lauriola - a mainstay on various European labels over the years - drops the stripped yet energetic ‘Intuition’. A recent addition to the Tresor residency line up, Paul Koski adds her hauntingly direct ‘Fever Coat’ while another rising star in the form of Canadian producer Isabel Soto unleashes the warping hypnotism of ‘Unfold’. Closing out the Exhibit 2 on a slightly tougher tip is prolific German producer Oliver Rosemann with the mechanical ‘Qubits’ and fledging Greek artists THER3MIN & Eissel, finishing things off with ‘Thruzero’ - a heady and atmospheric dance floor orientated track.

This is the first long distance trip in our digital branch, showcasing a complete album by Divide who is the alias of Davide from the Italian Syntaxism duo. In this body of work comprised of 13 tracks, you can find almost every colour in the techno sound palette, from the ambient intro Parsec to the equally soundscaped last track Alfa Persei. In between these two relaxed pieces there is a galore of beats and synths.

The album grows logically, building up as a whole opera. Punto_ω evolves from a relentless groove spiced with FM bells and resonant bleeps to the solid and slow paced Sfera Celeste, almost dubby, with subtle synth melodies in jazzy scales.

Punto_γ starts to bring things directly to danceable territories in a complex synth crescendo. Followed by Declinazione, with random sequences and tight 909 drum workout. Asymmetrical notes blend to each other giving this chaos feeling that sure dj’s like Jeff Mills will love and play.

Coordinate follows in similar parameters, alien like melodies and arpeggios over a shuffled beat, complex and always evolving. Cassiopea runs in similar parameters, but with a more aggressive sound approach.

Antares introduces distortion and harshness and acts as a powerful tool as well as the twisted Galileo, elastic and gummy but still powerful.

Centaurus boosts the high frequencies in the beginning as the rest of the elements build from below, the kick appears after a few bars putting all groove in context as the mechanical synth lines take over.

Andromeda is made of fat drums and resonant craziness spiced with wise handled distortion and Nube reminds us the best moments of solid nineties techno: hi BPM, well cooked chords and 909.

A great and detailed work that showcases the skills of this producer, aside from the currently degraded pseudo rave invasion. Again music from the future made today.

Now an established force in contemporary Techno, Mike Bierbach, better known under his stage name Rødhåd is someone who has seriously put in the work. Having cut his teeth DJing as a relatively unnoted (but well loved by those in the know) local in Berlin for 10 years, one could argue that by the time success knocked on his door, he was more than ready for playing the international stage. It was during these 10 years of obscurity when he refined his craft to become the singular DJ he is now. 

Launching his party-series-turned-label Dystopian in 2009 was what truly tipped the ball over for Rødhåd. In a time where the Berlin scene was heavily oversaturated by fluffy, miscellaneous dance music, he & his peers set out to form a platform for real techno. The reception to this was raucous. 

Although he has lauded productions and remixes to his name, DJing is his true forte. Before abandoning his day job as a draftsman in construction “The Red” (as some call him due to his gingered, bearded appearance) was known for playing very long sets in Berlin’s most notorious hideaways. 

With an album, several EPs & remixes for a multitude of different artists under his belt, Rødhåd the producer has received equal praise as Rødhåd the DJ. Dystopian has hosted most of his releases, but in 2018 he founded a new label WSNWG that serves as a home for collaborative productions, excavated in sessions at his East-Berlin studio with his peers such as Lucy, Alex.Do, & Antigone.
