Sounds much better when I use single coil pickups . I have another version where I used a great strat. The GTR sound is incredible but as far as the song itself it was an earlier incomplete version. I’ll try to dig it out and upload it

Trash Talk

This track is dedicated to my late friend Steve Begehr who I met in high school
Jazz band. He was a year ahead of me in high school and YEARS ahead in wisdom. He went out of his way to help me when I was just starting out. We met outside of school a few times and just jammed and talked about music etc. Most of all he helped me BELIEVE in myself. Whenever I’d get frustrated about not being able to play a scale or riff as cleanly as I’d like he always said not to worry, that I would definitely get it down the way I wanted. And he was right. 

He really made a difference in my life not only in music, but also life in general. He was definitely an “old soul.” Sadly I never got the chance to thank him as he passed away in the mid 90s. He once told me his dream was to be a pilot, and he did get to fulfill that dream despite his untimely passing. 

Rest In Peace my friend. And THANK YOU!

The Hero (Inspired by and written for Steve Begehr)

Mechanization, Modes, and Mystification

The working title for this song was "Vai-land." It was the first song I wrote after I was in Guitar Player Magazine's Guitar Hero competition at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. I hadn't done any real writing or recording for a decade. I was fearful that I would have writer's block.. But I had the main rythm part and I knew where I wanted to go with the song.. it was like pulling teeth but after about a month I finally finished it and was satisfied. 

Glory

This was initially a song I had floating around in my head with vocals/lyrics etc.. But I needed more songs to fill up my CD so I just made the guitar "sing" the melody and made it an instrumental.

Honey Pie Blues

This song came to me rather quickly. One of the last tracks I wrote for "The One." You can hear the Neil Schon influence in the leads. 

Your Song

I double tracked this and panned each track to left and right.. I used a John Petrucci Musicman with a piezo (peizo?) bridge and and acoustic mode on a Johnson Station for this. Sounds a bit tinny and bright but I didn't have a steel string acoustic at the time..  song was originally called “sister.”
