Bio:
DJ/composer from Venice, Italy. Grown with family's funk vinyls, he became a passionate listener of minimal and underground electronic 
music, trying to discover something different. Listening to jazz, trip-hop and ambient, help him to compose new atmospheres for his independent releases. A bunch of trip-hop/jazz/ambient tracks that could easily fill your room during the night. Play it and you will  get some less famous tracks from well-known artists, mixed with new releases from independent ones.

"I must've purchased dozens of records within the past few months but they just sit and collect dust. I hardly record a selection with them because I started to get bored with idea of putting out mixes on a constant basis, I began to feel like it's no different from running around in circles somewhat, you feel your mixes are easily drowned as the internet is over-loaded with music these days.

I keep purchasing the music that I feel on vinyl like always, from bangin' house to acid tracks, deepest house to chunky techno, but I hardly record any new sessions these days. I get to DJ out at clubs here in Istanbul but in order to play proper music for the heads at clubs in town, there has to be some decent afterhours club/small chill out room that's open-minded and receptive enough. The only trouble is you never really get both sides of the coin at one venue/event around here.

So, I decided to come up with a selection where I can set the mood for late nights but that restlessness in my soul made me squeeze some naughty beats here and there too, so here is the latest Avenue Red selection for you! Roel Funcken officially popped up on the scene in 2010, with his solo debut, titled Vade, out on Ad Noiseam. But fans of electronic music, and IDM in general, have been tracking this Dutch musician for over a decade prior, when, along with his brother, Don, the duo has released some of the genre defining music on labels such as Djak-Up-Bitch, Schematic, Sublight Records, Neo Ouija, n5MD , Arcola (Warp) as the one and only Funckarma. In 2009 the Funcken brothers kicked off their very own, digital-only, Funcken Industry imprint, which hosted a few of their other projects and offshoots, such as Shadow Huntaz, Scone, Quench, Automotive, and the latest from Roel's solo works. Roel continues to influence the evolution of music through numerous releases (Sapper Morton on Analogical Force, Semtinal Convex on Methlab and Prester Hynn on his own imprint to name a few) and active engagement in the community, with music festival curation, mixes on mixlr and soundcloud and weekly playlists on Soundcloud and spotify. Roel's music is advanced in sound design, often incorporating unique experimentation in electronic sound, with cut-up, twisted, atmospheric sonic soundscapes, leaving the cranium always begging for more. His ambient textures maintain a cinematic quality throughout, while his percussive arrangements retain a constantly mutating framework, always reconstructing its rhythm and structure, contradicting complex configurations and minimal design.
