Here's a track I just put out as part of the 10th anniversary compilation of one of my favourite labels, Glasgow's finest Bricolage. It also happens to be the first track I'm putting out as a solo production under my own name. It is kinda ambient/downtempo/dub/lo-fi/IDM-ish - I hope you like it!

The Dormon brothers have been honing their craft since the 90's. Releasing a raft of albums and EPs on some great labels like Piehead, Lom, Senton, Progerik and the seminal Toytronic, over the years. "Toytronic" in particular, was one of the labels that inspired what we do here at Bricolage. It had a huge impact on me as a teenager and the Multiplex "Pinghaus Frequencies" album from the label was constantly on rotation in my bedroom. It's pretty surreal that now, more than twenty years after hearing that album, we can welcome them onto the label. The world works in magical ways.

"Multiplex recordings are far from the standard studio format, as we build up the tracks on two sets of music equipment, in two countries, with two biased opinions of what the final result should be. But instead of fighting for control of the studio and the mix, we surrender control of our ideas to each other, which has worked well so far."

The result makes for raw, analogue chaos. When they go hard they go all in but there's also the other side that seeps through with their more textured electronica that breezes along so smoothly.

The "Colour Kinetica" album has all the Multiplex hallmarks. Abrasive yet vibrant melodies, cyber basslines and elastic rhythms. They take the genre's bleeps and bass elements and put them through their own audio grinder to create a unique brand of head spinning electro.

"Colour Kinetica" is their first new album in quite some time and it's safe to say it's been worth the wait as we get to enter into an innovative sonic realm.

Hot on the heels of the huge celebrative 10th anniversary compilation "X", Glaswegian independent label Bricolage label (@bricolage-g5) hits the ground running with an absolute titan of a release from legends of the electronic underground, Multiplex (@user-64321338).

Multiplex is the longstanding project of British electronic brothers Christian & Roland Dormon, renowned mainstays of the so-called 'second wave' of IDM scene since the late 90s, honing their craft over the years through a raft of albums and EPs on some great labels such as Piehead, Lom, Senton, Progerik and the seminal Toytronic.

Based on separate sides of the Atlantic, the brothers produce by sending music back and forward to each other from separate studios.

So I’ve had this idea for years, and finally, it's coming to life, thru a release on Touched Music. I wanted to do something bigger with my musical power for a good cause. I have an amazing network of musical friends, and almost everybody I asked to get involved said yes. I just want to make a statement, we all have the power to do something good in this world, just think about it what it is for yourself and think of ways to make it happen.

3 years ago I adopted a Rottweiler from the shelter, he was in the shelter for 2 years. From all the dogs I took walks with I connected the most with him. And although he is a handful, I love him more than anything in the world. And it opened up my eyes even wider how I connect with them, mostly better than with humans.

I just love animals and dogs in particular. It was clear I wanted to pick a charity that helps dogs, nothing grabs me more by the throat than the horrific situation for dogs in the dog meat trade in Asia. I supported the soi dog foundation a couple of times already so this was a logical choice to focus on them. They do amazing stuff in the whole of Asia.

Mission Statement of soi dog: 
To improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, resulting in better lives for both the animal and human communities, to create a society without homeless animals, and to ultimately end animal cruelty.

Roel Funcken officially popped up on the scene in 2010, with his solo debut, titled Vade, out on Ad Noiseam. But fans of electronic music, and IDM in general, have been tracking this Dutch musician for over a decade prior, when, along with his brother, Don, the duo has released some of the genre defining music on labels such as Djak-Up-Bitch, Schematic, Sublight Records, Neo Ouija, n5MD , Arcola (Warp) as the one and only Funckarma. In 2009 the Funcken brothers kicked off their very own, digital-only, Funcken Industry imprint, which hosted a few of their other projects and offshoots, such as Shadow Huntaz, Scone, Quench, Automotive, and the latest from Roel's solo works. Roel continues to influence the evolution of music through numerous releases (Sapper Morton on Analogical Force, Semtinal Convex on Methlab and Prester Hynn on his own imprint to name a few) and active engagement in the community, with music festival curation, mixes on mixlr and soundcloud and weekly playlists on Soundcloud and spotify. Roel's music is advanced in sound design, often incorporating unique experimentation in electronic sound, with cut-up, twisted, atmospheric sonic soundscapes, leaving the cranium always begging for more. His ambient textures maintain a cinematic quality throughout, while his percussive arrangements retain a constantly mutating framework, always reconstructing its rhythm and structure, contradicting complex configurations and minimal design. It's always a pleasure to taste the latest treat from this aural engineer, and find the latest gem in his never-ending arsenal of sound.
