Yuka Kitamura and Alex Roe present Seasons, a collaboration of easy listening and emotive compositions portraying each season. It's been a few years since we first talked about the idea of working together but in 2021 we were finally able to do it, and to my surprise it became a small album! I think now was the perfect time to do it and I hope everyone enjoys this album as much as we enjoyed writing it. 

It's not the usual collaborative effort either. We first chose which were our favourite seasons: Kitamura chose Spring and Winter and I chose Summer and Autumn (although I think we had to discuss that a bit haha). It starts with Spring which Kitamura started and we passed the song back and forth like a relay. And I started Summer which we passed back and forth too. I wonder if you can tell who takes over from who? Then for the other two seasons we wrote the songs ourselves but tried to emulate the other persons style, so I tried to write an Autumn song in Kitamura's style and she wrote a Winter song in my style. I'm very proud of the result and it was a really fun way to work together, I would be very honoured to work together again some day.

Elden Ring is too hype and I had to do something about it, everyone's going crazy and I need in on it. I really wanted to do a remix but there's not a ton to work with in the trailer so what I decided to do was just go with the feel of the whole trailer and make it my own (whilst trying to include some little familiar bits of the music). 

I also just realized this is the first proper big song I've released on my new rig using my new orchestral samples. I have a template I'm really happy with for writing orchestra and you'll get to hear the full power of that when GRIME releases this year. I also finished the soundtrack for GRIME a couple of weeks ago, very excited for everyone to hear it!

Elden Ring - The Flame Of Ambition (Remix/Original Inspired)

Elden Lords is an original album inspired by the upcoming game Elden Ring. The album is heavily inspired by the gameplay trailer and the concept that it may draw from Celtic folklore and Norse mythology. 

Similar to Borne in Blood, this album is based on very little information and allowed a lot of freedom and interpretation to what the soundtrack to Elden Ring could be like. Although the music does draw inspiration from the game's composer Yuka Kitamura, Elden Lords also draws from other works such as Bear McCreary's God of War, E.S. Posthumus, Howard Shore's The Lord of the Rings, Adiemus and my own work as well.

This is the track I've released with the pre-order for the album. Castellan Sylvan is one of the first tracks I did and is obviously moulded around the Cleric Beast track, and was around the time I was tweaking my orchestral template to feel much closer to Bloodborne than I have before. This is a new template that I've tweaked and worked from since writing for The Iron Oath as I changed how I was producing my orchestral tracks. I remember a comment once with the first Night of the Hunt about how the production wasn't very similar and was lacking bass, and it's one of the things I hope is addressed with this new quality. The music is a little quieter than the previous Night of the Hunt albums and other things I've done, but has been balanced with a deeper quality. And I hope this comes across as I got more creative and unique with other tracks in the album. I don't think I'll ever get much closer without spending much more money on samples or getting it performed live, and I would love live to be an option in the future.

There is a loose story and lore to this album but I've always enjoyed your takes and opinions on what it means to you. All I want to say is that The Blood Moon was always inspired by Castle Cainhurst, Vilebloods (or vampires akin to them) and a place that's cold with ice and snow. I couldn't help but think a little of Castlevania during all of this as well. And what happens during that journey I leave down to you.

This is a song where I basically imagined something else but titled it differently. As I was thinking up names I just couldn't get Father of the Beast out of my head, it reminded me of Shadow of the Beast and I thought it was a cool name. A couple of the songs in this album are modelled after Bloodborne tracks either because of familiarity and being close to the source material, research, or seeing how close my project file was to sounding like the game's soundtrack. So this track was modelled after Darkbeast, which is a song I have no idea why I never remixed because I love it -- but to make something similar is even better. 

We are only a few days away from release. I've already posted some albums and I felt really bad for the lady at the post office haha. I'm gonna post a video on the physical CD itself so you can see it clearer and then Sunday night is the listening party on Twitch https://twitch.tv/roetaka at 11pm GMT and I'll do a vid/post about that too. I think I'll give away an physical album and some album codes during that stream so it would be awesome to see a good turn out for it.

Demon's Souls - Scourge Of Demons

I haven't written anything like this since the start of this year when I wrote 'I'll Be Your Memory' as I was thinking of the passing of my mum's partner. Sadly this year my mum passed away on Easter Sunday at the age of 55. I miss her dearly and I never knew what I was going to do without her, I still don't, she was the closest person in my life and that will never heal. 

I knew at some point I would write something as I thought of her and know I'd never do it justice, maybe some day I will. She loved music and I know what she liked of mine, she never liked the aggressive choir pieces but I could always get her to listen to the soft pieces and songs like this, she would always say "yeah I like that!" after as she listened to them with her eyes closed and I know she was proud of me. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't be where I am now with music, she gave me the chance to follow my dreams and I'll never get over that she didn't get to see them fully come true. And I owe it to her to make sure that they do come true.

It's been nearly 5 months now and this year has already thrown enough in my way, it's time now to be moving forward. I am doing fine and looking forward to the future. I have soundtracks to work on, the next Time album that this will be a part of and many other things. I may not be able to post much content in the near future because of work but we'll see what happens, either way the Time album will be what's next.
