The Kif Kif Riddim [West Coast Studios - 2014]

And biggup Saj Moor and his West Coast Studios imprint from out of Morocco for their latest release, the Kif Kif Riddim. WCS is interesting and every time you hear from them they're pushing compelling works and this time, which may be their first riddim compilation (to date I always recall them focusing on singles), is no different. The old-school-ish and very familiar Kif Kif Riddim is outstanding and Moor and co. have turned it over to some truly talented vocalists. Like who???! Check Perfect Giddimani espousing on one of his most dear subjects on 'Just An Ounce Ounce', Belizean dynamo Ras Indio with 'Plant Di Corn', and the woefully under-recorded and underrated Arkaingelle with 'Rastaman Ah Chant'. Luv Fyah, Binghi Ghost and Fikir Amlak (especially Amlak with the infectious 'Hi Grade'). Unsurprisingly, however, to my opinion it is WCS staple, Ras Attitude, who gives the Kif Kif its biggest highlight with 'Green Gold Rush'.

A wonderful thing when 2 people come together from different corners of the world and unite through music, sharing their experiences and building blocks to support shared ideas. This is exactly what happened with Dreadsquad and Blackout JA when, at Uprising Festival, Slovakia, the pair met, bonded and decided to spend a week writing and recording to produce what is now the main body of 'World Destruction’.

The result, as Dreadsquad feels, ‘is at the same time very diverse and cohesive’ and this is down to a number of things; namely the production techniques used, the style of Blackouts vocals and the natural way that all of the songs came together to reflect the current atmosphere of the world.

Subject matters of the songs move through corruption, poverty, mind control, war on drugs, police brutality and the destruction of the world we are living in but they also highlight positivity and solutions spreading love and giving people hope.

The 2 singles being lifted from the album, ‘Last Tune’ and ‘A Girl Like You’, will be put to good use on both the radio and dance floor, then the album as a whole takes in many different genres; Roots Reggae, Digital / Raggamuffin, UK Steppas, Rub a Dub with influences of World Music and EDM.

Dreadsquad and Blackout JA will be performing their album ‘World Destruction’ across Europe throughout 2016

Trojan Reloaded have proudly announced details of their newest musical offering ‘The Music’,  a brand new EP from one of the UK’s leading sound system collectives- Reggae Roast. Comprised of five tracks, the record features an all-star lineup of musical greats with features from the likes of  Brother Culture, Jah Screechy, Natty Campbell, Shumba Youth, Donavon King Jay, and Clapper Priest.

Since forming in 2007, Reggae Roast have forged a reputation as the leading light in the resurgence of the UK Dub / Reggae scene. The release of ‘The Music’ EP breathes new life into a sound system classic affirming Reggae Roast as key players in the new wave of British Reggae all whilst keeping the original spirit of the genre alive.

The EP features five tracks on the 'None a Jah Jah Children No Cry' riddim, originally recorded by Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus in 1975, and remade by Fashion Records in the late 1980's for the track 'We a Blood' by Junior Delgado, both of which went on to become classics in the reggae and sound system world.
‘The Music’ EP  reversions these tracks to give them space and cultural relevance within the 21st century, with brand new vocal cuts from some of the most talented MCs and vocalists in the country including Brother Culture and Jah Screechy.

It also features a brilliant all-star track featuring all the Reggae Roast Soundsystem vocalists, with Donovan Kingjay, Brother Culture, Natty Campbell, Clapper Priest and Shumba Youth, each on their own verses, collectively offering a real fusion of mix and sounds.

Reggae Roast are signed to Trojan records imprint label, Trojan Reloaded with the collectives debut album to be released via the new label.
