ABOUT:

Nils Frahm has always said that he’s just waiting for something real special when being asked if he would ever score the music for a film. And that’s exactly what German director Sebastian Schipper presented to him with his one-take feature ‘Victoria’. Filmed in Berlin, Victoria’s plot sees a runaway party girl, who's asked by three friendly men to join them as they hit the town, but their wild night of partying suddenly turns into a bank robbery as the music changes from techno to subdued piano sounds.

For the recording session at Studio P4 in Berlin, Frahm enlisted the help of long-time collaborator and cellist Anne Müller, violist Viktor Orri Árnason and ambient artist Erik K. Skodvin of Deaf Center on guitar.

‘Victoria’ won the Berlinale Film Festival prize for Best Cinematography and has also received seven nominations including Best Soundtrack for the Deutscher Filmpreis – Germany’s highest movie award, and will be released in cinemas across Germany on June 11th with plans to release it in the UK and other countries soon.

Oliver Heldens & Shaun Frank - Shades of Grey (Ft. Delaney Jane) (Club Mix) [Available June 22]

This track started with a visit to the pyramids of Teotihuacan in Mexico. A beautiful place, but a place where a lot of the original culture and knowledge that created the pyramids has been lost, and replaced with a rebuilt, tourist trap.

So it's a mix of loss and sadness and beauty with an edge of modern misuse, which I tried to capture in the original strings from which the track was built. I also made some binaural recordings of the sounds there, and a storm which came in, to give a real layer of atmosphere from the actual location. Tom Hodge then played piano to these elements, bringing the whole piece to life.

I loved the piano on it's own in addition to the strings version, so as well as the Part 2 on the EP, we also created a Part 1 piano solo version with the piano sent into a feedback matrix with lots of randomising to create unusual textures. This part 1 version can be downloaded for free from www.maxcooper.net as part of the Quotient Series.

Teotihuacan (Part 2) with Tom Hodge

When I uploaded this track, I didn't expect that about 3 millions people will listen to it.
So, I have to explain few things. I'm not the artist or the composer of this piece of music, and unfortunately idk the artist neither.
I uploaded this music when my Grandma passed away, she was my favorite person in Earth, I loved her more than I loved anyone in my life and I don't think that I'll love anyone the same as her. May she rest in peace.

I had such a great time making this track, it was always intended to be a an epic dance floor song. In my sets I play a lot of different genres, Trance/Progressive/Psy/Trap, so I wanted to make something that took the best of all those worlds and smash it into something really energetic and trippy. I never really intended on releasing it and was only going to keep it for my sets because its such a weird song but the response over the last year has been so great and a lot of you asked for it so here it is.
