Another Cinematic Orchestration assignment, focussed on Brass writing. The tune is childishly simple, so the challenge was to give it more variety and character via orchestration.

Brass Unleashed

This is a Cinematic Orchestration assignment, written for a rather unlikely ensemble: harp plus 4 percussionists (playing marimba, celeste, glockenspiel, mark tree, suspended cymbal, timpani, snare drum and tubular bells).

Compose variations on Greensleeves for small orchestra. Duration: 1'00"
Line up: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, 2 Horns, 2 Trumpets, 2 Trombones, 1 Percussion (Timpani/Snare), Harp, Piano, Strings: 6-4-3-3-2

Composed, orchestrated, performed and mixed by Roger Philbrick using VSL SE solo instruments and chamber strings, plus Ivory Italian piano and VSL MIR reverb.

The brief for this version was to use a wild variety of styles and not to worry about subtle transitions! I had particular composers in mind when writing five of the nine sections. See if you can spot them!

This is my final composition for the ThinkSpace Cinematic Orchestration course: an original 1 minute work for large orchestra (100 players).
