New year, new stories. Baba Sikander launches our 2019 with a fantastic mixture of cat meows, lectures on the meaning of needs and a deep driving beat.

Being the son of a DJ daddy, Sikander has been influenced by dance music from his early childhood years. Grown up with Italo Disco, Acid House and early Techno, he shifted to UK Breakbeats and Drum & Bass in the mid 90s, when he decided to become a DJ and put the needle on the record. The following years, he indulged himself into any genre of electronic music that was fun to play. These days, he prefers ear candy that swings between organic and abstract, laid-back and heavy.

Moyn Moyn, what a little pearl of a festival you are!

I arrived at the festival Saturday evening and had gotten very little sleep before, as I went straight from a club event in Copenhagen to the long bus tour. Yet, catching up with old friends and breathing in the vibe of the place gave an incredible energy boost, and playing there was really a big pleasure and a lot of fun.

So... here it is! The recording of my set from Saturday night into Sunday (3-5 am) at the secret and absolutely stunning Siedbruck floor, built by the wonderful and big-hearthed crew behind Silk Sessions (a huge THANK YOU to y'all for making my Moyn Moyn a great experience, again <3 ).

🗯🗯 Mit welchen Clubs / Kollektiven bist du verbunden und wie ist die Situation bei euch? 🗯🗯

Ich bin einer der Begründer von URSL und schon ziemlich lange als ein Part von Soukie und Windish unterwegs. Amount ist seit drei Jahren mein Soloprojekt, bei dem ich meistens Live spiele aber auch auflege. Wir sind bei URSL gerade relativ aktiv, weil durch die Pandemie auch Zeit frei wird, die nun verstärkt in Label-Arbeit gesteckt werden kann. Auch wenn es eine schwierige Situation ist derzeit und viele schwer getroffen hat, für mich persönlich hat die   Phase gerade auch durchaus ihre guten Seiten. Das ist aber natürlich eine sehr persönliche Sache. Ich finde nachdem man fast 13 Jahre in so vielen Clubs sich die Nächte um die Ohren geschlagen hat, es auch mal sehr schön, dass ohne Alternative und schlechtes Gewissen alles anhält und eine gewisse Ruhe einkehrt, man weniger toxisch lebt, Zeit hat und so weiter. Ich kenne viele die sagen, dass ihnen die Pause gerade sehr guttut. Ich persönlich habe zugegeben auch Glück das ich von den Rettungsschirmen ganz gut aufgefangen werde, deshalb ist alles bei mir bis jetzt nicht wirklich schlimm. Zudem bin ich gewohnt prekär zu existieren und dementsprechend ist die Unsicherheit der Situation auch kein Stress mehr für mich. Es ist einfach prekär wie immer. Außerdem arbeite ich einfach weiter gerade im Studio und mache viel Musik, also ändert sich für mich auch nicht so viel im Alltag wie bei Anderen. Natürlich ist die Situation besonders tragisch für die Clubs, das sehe ich auch. Ich hoffe einfach, dass der Szene geholfen wird, bis die Türen wieder aufgemacht werden können und bin auch besorgt, dass da viel kaputt gehen könnte.   Ansonsten denke ich, haben wir das gröbste schon hinter uns und man kann sich wieder - zumindest was die Krankheit Covid 19 angeht - wieder entspannen, die Zahlen sehen ja gut aus. In der Hasenheide wird auf jeden fall schon wieder geraved und Techno wird eh irgendwie weitergehen.
