I wrote this song while living in Laguna de Apoyo, Nicaragua. It is a freshwater lagoon in the mouth of a 23,000 dormant volcano that is believed to have healing qualities. It is the most tranquil place! However, one night I had trouble sleeping because of the howler monkeys and ‘Café De Los Sueños’ came out. Silver linings to insomnia!

Ironically, this song was the least prepared when we went into the studio but it became my favorite song on the EP. I love the beat and since it is largely improvised, it’s never quite the same song twice! I got an itch to write in the West African kora tradition because my parents met and got married in Senegal, West Africa. We grew up listening to Senegalese and West African music and I totally fell in love with the music from that region. I think it’s some of the most beautiful music in the world.
