As soft and dreamy as their moniker may be, Clouds actually make some of the most brutal and destructive techno out there. The Scottish duo of Calum MacLeod and Liam Robertson have been doing so with ever more abrasive surfaces and twisted drums since 2010, releasing on the likes of Turbo, Opal Tapes and Soma. Two of their three albums, though, have come on Speedy J’s Electric Deluxe. The latest, Heavy The Eclipse, is a conceptual affair that comes with a brilliantly realised website telling the story of a city that was left to rot after social and economic collapse. This “post-industrial hell-future” is taken over by Germans and renamed Neurealm, and is soundtracked across 14 perfectly dark and dystopian pieces featuring snippets of vocals, tinges of euphoria, passages of desolate dub and frazzled industrial noise. 

In their mix for us, the pair continue with that bleakly immersive sonic imagery by using unreleased material only! Nightmarish screams are obscured by scuzzy sonic blizzards, rave synths spray about above overdriven drums and hardcore and dub culture references often poke through the mire. It’s an all out aural assault that takes you to the heart of a grotty, strobe-lit warehouse in the very dead of night.

With a DIY network of producers, DJs, collectives and parties making Montréal a hotbed for activity, softcoresoft found her footing championing for gender representation in the city since being absorbed musically by the scene growing around her. We caught up with Leticia for a lengthy in-depth chat, discussing her trajectory through Montréal's underground, her community-building role as the music director at Never Apart and how she's using that oppurtunity to realise her vision of how to approach gender issues when it comes to programming. With prominent appearances the last few years at MUTEK Montréal (2018 and 2017 as Demora), Piknic Électronik and Igloofest, as well as a being a recent alumna of the 2019 RBMA Bass Camp in Calgary, her brand of fast acid house, techno and trance have made her a staple figure in Montréal's electronic music scene, with international recognition gaining traction. Featuring a couple tracks from her forthcoming Lobster Theremin Black release, she describes her Truancy Volume as a fast-paced 'all bangers' mix, fully reflecting what her DJ sets are like these days. The mix, switching from Danish stalwarts Anastasia Kristensen and Schacke to trance-tinged edits of Italian producers Lorenzo Senni and Gabber Eleganza, is a raucous hour and eighteen minutes of light-speed thrills and high-paced BPMs.

Brothers @lundroende co-founded the BunkerBauer collective with DJ Ibon and Lasse Vind and the pair are also behind the new label V.A.L.I.S., which has been set up to release new hard trance, much of it made by the scene's best-known techno producers working under pseudonyms. The brothers have been DJ'ing together for over a decade now, and have honed their own signature sound which pivots on hard 90's techno, acid and trance and a multitude of offshoot styles

Danilo Incorvaia steps up for the next podcast in our series. The Milan-based artist broke through after his EP on the T/W/B label, with the track "We're Not Born Free" as one of the weapons of 2017, played regularly by Tommy Four Seven and Kobosil. After that he released an EP on Scuderia and recently made a remix for the classic T99 - Anasthasia.

Florian Kozlowski, também conhecido como Kozlov, nasceu em 1995 perto de Paris. Apaixonado por sons eletrônicos de todos os tipos desde a adolescência, não demorou muito para comprar seu equipamento para mixar e assim promover seu apego à música. 

Descobriu o techno quando tinha 18 anos em uma viagem à Croácia durante um festival de verão  e literalmente se apaixonou por esse mundo completamente diferente do que ele conhecia. Quando estava na Croácia, não esperava sentir esse sentimento com as pessoas, a atmosfera dessas festas e o que isso libera.

A sua paixão pela música voltou-se para a Techno e aos 22 anos decidiu produzir, partilhar com o mundo as suas faixas. Lançou vários EP, various artists, e lançou seu próprio Bandcamp / Soundcloud para compartilhar com seus fãs suas últimas criações

Florian Kozlowski aka Kozlov, was born in 1995 near Paris. Passionate about electronic sounds of all kinds since his adolescence, it does not take long to buy his equipment to mix and thus promote its attachment to music.

He really discovered techno when he was 18 on a trip to Croatia during a summer festival, and literally fell in love with this world completely different from what he knew. «When I was in Croatia I did not expect to feel this feeling with people, the atmosphere of these parties and what it releases.

His passion for music turned to Techno and at 22 he decided to produce, to share with the world his tracks and his definition of techno. He released several EP, Various Artists, and launched his own Bandcamp/Soundcloud to share with his fans his latest creations.
