In the early 20th century it received new verses by the nationalist poet Patrick Pearse and was often sung by members of the Irish Volunteers during the Easter Rising. It was also sung as a fast march during the Irish War of Independence.

Tá an amhrán seo faoi cultúr agus Stair an Gaeilge in Éireann agus go háirithe faoi éirí amach na Cásca 1916 agus dul chun cínn an Gaeilge.Tá an eirigh amach mar  céann de na cúiseanna is láidire atá againn go bhfuil an Gaeilge fós beo agus léiríonn an t-amhrán seo go mba chéart níos mó bród agus iarracht gach a bhfuil againn a úsáid i dtaobh na Gaeilge de.Tá an Aisling a bhí ag gach a raibh páirteach san eirigh amach i 1916 mar réaltacht san lá atá inniú ánn ,tá an teanga fós beo agus go mba chóir í a úsaid gan aon stró.
Scríobh mé an t-amhrán seo mar chuide den ceoildráma "Aisling?" agus chuaigh muid ar camcúirt go dtí na Gaeltachtaí ar fud na tíre.

This song is written about the Irish culture and the History of the Irish Gaelic Language in Ireland and especially about the 1916 Rising and the progress of the Irish language right down through the year.This Rising is one of the key reasons why the Irish language is still alive today,this song also symbolizes the importance and significance of the Irish language and that we use it regularly as it is a part of our identity.The dream that the men and women of 1916 had is now a reality in this day and age.The language is truly alive and we must use it as much as we can.
I wrote this song for a musical that I was a part of called "Aisling?" and we went on a tour to all  Gaeltachtaí (the Irish speaking areas) around the whole of Ireland.
