Rhadoo is one of the most important figures in Romanian minimal scene, as well as the underground scene. His DJ and production skills knows no boundaries. His style blends the old with the new, adding new elements to modern electronic music. In 2007, he founded the label [a:rpia:r] with his trusted friends Petre Inspirescu and Raresh. The label’s reputation grew rapidly worldwide and is now a solid platform for artists and music connoisseurs.

Creating worlds never seen before and the constant return to nature as the ultimate designer and source of inspiration are the prosperous obsessions shaping the artistic practice of Silviu Vișan a.k.a Dreamrec. Growing up around his artisan father who was building oversized toys for an amusement park turned into the perfect context to learn about the emotional experience of immersive environments and the secrets of morphing a place into an event. Not to mention it was the starting point for the self-thought wizard to try his hand at DIY magic either bringing joy or conjuring horror. Years later using videofeedback and layers of state-of-the-art software as tools to explore the unusual time&space where computers become genuinely unpredictable and the output becomes a fluid stream of pareidolia, Dreamrec is channeling in international festivals, clubs and art spaces his own visual aesthetic: immersive, mesmerizing and fictional as if visitors / partygoers physically stepped into another dimension. After the last two weeks' high-octane entries, s.drift arrives to RA Radio with an odyssean wend through stellar textures, humming ambience, technological soundscapes and flickers of glitch.

Across live sets and a number of self-published productions, s.drift has cultivated an uncategorisable sound that slinks between ambient, sound-collage and the variegated rhythms of dance. Yet his music never settles satisfied into any of these and implies always something exceeding the confinement of a label and beyond the bounds of writing.

It's still difficult to describe both Cal's tunes and the way he mixes, where every echoic cymbal, every thrum of bass, every shift in pattern manages to come across laden with an unearthly significance. One thing Cal and I connected over was videogames, and there's this idea in game studies about the technological sublime... that the trick of sublimity in a game is that it always appears to exceed what it shows - a game does not provide you an entire world, it intimates the imagination that the world one inhabits could be entire. There's something similar, albeit with the difference that there's no illusion here, in Cal's mix. A universe is always present, if only as half-dreamt conjectures. There are suggestions of mechanism and the discordance of industry, wisps of dislocated voice and the embers of disco and hardcore and dub. But it's always a peripheral universe, there being something innately charitable in the attitude to music... a universe as-yet undiscerned, a whole lifeworld built of shards into which only the listener's intrusion can clarify some personal coherence. A music that creates a canvas atop which the paints are particles and tinctures, oblique spaces into which the listener might build.

It's like there's a secret in the music only s.drift knows. But this secrecy allures rather than excludes. It adumbrates a planetscape alive and coruscating, an ecosystem of ooze constituting an invitation to the tangibility of fantasy. And because of the skill with which Cal can conjure worlds, fantasy is here simply the given of reality.

Realist Alive Radio 004: s.drift

I’ve been meaning to resurrect the Dusky Delay mix series for quite some time since I left Openlab radio a couple of years ago. Well, it’s back! bi-monthly transmissions will appear here on SoundCloud from now on.

This episode was inspired by a recent trip to the Isle of Skye to play at the magical Skye live festival. Special times with special people in one of the most beautiful places on the planet!

Holy Tongue is a collaboration between percussionist Valentina Magaletti, best known for her work with Vanishing Twin, Tomaga, UUUU, Raime, Nicolas Jaar and Jandek among many others, and producer Al Wootton (TRULE Records, FKA Deadboy).
This first EP is a product of an improvised session in East London. Heavily influenced by dub reggae, the two bring a mutual appreciation for the experimental dub of On-U-Sound, Muslimgauze, and post-punk bands such as Liquid Liquid and 23 Skidoo to the forefront of the sound.
The result is an EP of psychedelic, free-form, high energy, spiritual dub-dance music.
Amidah Records is an offshoot of TRULE Records, specialising in more experimental sounds.
