"When i came up with the concept for my album i knew that i needed one really euphoric track in the first half of the record to propel the LP forwards. When I heard the original vocal by Alyss i knew that it was perfect for what I wanted. The production of her voice was psychedelic and the lyrics fit perfectly with things i what i wanted the record to say. So I locked myself down in the studio for an afternoon and started tinkering with using the vocal for my own track. Once I got going it just all came out in one burst.

I couldn’t believe it because I had been working quite slowly up until this point. So I thought the way to double check that what I had done was good was to go for a drive and listen to it.
So i put the demo on my phone and drove around the winding coastal road near my house, making mental notes on how it felt as I drove. Driving this road through the bush, around the mountains and cliffs I could hear everything that needed to happen in the track. I rushed home, made the changes and then got in the car again. I repeated this for hours, driving this crazy road away from my house, then back again to make the changes I could hear in my head.

By the end of the day the whole track was done. It sat on the shelf for a long time while I did the rest of the album, as I started to add more drums to the other tracks I started thinking that this one too might need something more. So we recorded drums, then i contacted Alyss and got her to try out some more vocal ideas and the track moved further away from what I had intended it to be. It wasn't until I had the whole album finished that I realised the original version was the truest realisation of the idea. So in a way it was the first and last piece of the album puzzle."

'Being There' - the final taster before I drop my album next week - is out today!! And here's the incredible album artwork by @sonnenzimmer  This track came about very quickly. I had been working on a different track all day which was going nowhere. I decided to finish up for the day, but before i did i recorded a very quick couple of synth sounds with my favourite synth which had just returned from being repaired. I never thought much of it until i was putting together things to send to my drummer & collaborator Ryan. I sent him this with a rudimentary drum loop and he immediately jumped at it, recorded the drums and send it back. I feel like it really captures the vibe for the LP, warm drums with dreamy synths. The vocal is another snippet from the recording of my friend Iris i made when i was in Bali, the same vocal that features on Circulating. I chopped it up with a granular sampler and recorded the output.
