Panthera Krause joins the Lobster Theremin stable with a mid-summer trip into the heart of the sun. Drawing on a plethora of classic house influences, Krause weaves these into a style which is a at once recognisable yet uniquely his own, production-wise drawing as much from the MPC-led West Coast beat scene as the European house approach. 

'Rules' kicks off the EP with a serious throwing of the gauntlet.. A slightly shuffled beat being quickly overtaken by a groove-hefty wandering bassline that bobs it's way around a melodic 8-bar refrain, suddenly smothered and smudged by the glowing warmth of sun-tinged pads. Pure summer analogue headiness distilled into 6 minutes of terrace-slaying bliss. 

On the flip, 'Rewo' takes a dusty shakin' drum pattern and filters a cut-throat sampled 'n' filtered piano stab into the mix. All seemingly harmless until the gargantuan sub bass comes rumbling into the fray. Solid lobster pool-party action on a 5* LA hotel rooftop. 

Closing out the EP, and moving things into edits-y territory, is 'Them Flutes'. Although debatable whether there are actually discernible flutes in the track, the final number is built around a looping proto-disco element that steadily evolves while shoving a cattle-prod to the hips when those periodic chords hit.

The SPECIAL DELIVERY – the vinyl iteration of I'm A Cliché's EDIT SERVICE – is back. After last year's first instalment in the series that featured acclaimed edits by Red Axes and Rouge Mécanique, this time around we commit to wax four edits that come courtesy of Mannequin Records' A.A. We'll let you connoisseurs trace back the originals.

A1. Systa — Driven by female vocals and a LinnDrum groove this mid-tempo edit is a melodic and elegant affair. As the track progresses it becomes more and more ominous and there is no doubt you’ll witness the dance floor breaking down while it’s played.

A2. Atema — An uptempo number where production and vocals harken back to the sound of Italian new wave. Culled from an ultra rare cassette-only release, this is a compelling track that will make everybody feel the rhythm of the dance. 

B1. Pava — Another reminder that Italian film soundtracks from the late 70’s and early 80’s are absolute gold mines. This number where bass guitar, live drums and a fair share of analog keyboards are used truly stands out thanks to its plodding groove and slow motion dance-inducing rhythm. Perfect for warm-ups or wind-downs. 

B2. Lapi — If there’s a banger on the EP, this is it. Retro-futuristic, dark and catchy this rare minimal wave cut is quite irresistible and this edit is bound to cause some interesting damage on the dance floor.

Each copy is hand-stamped and come with an exclusive poster (40x60cm) folded and inserted in a picture disc-style PVC sleeve.

Kalbata - Enkuan Part 1 (STW Premiere)

This split LP compiles the output of two closely related bands from, as suggested by the title, the hot, humid and(at the time) socially isolated city of Brisbane, Australia - an unlikely location for synth-pop and new wave music during the 198's. Prod & the Moonbaby were a high school duo experimenting with tape loops, cheap electronics and primitive sampling. the result is certainly lo-fi, light-hearted and naive, but also charming and the music belies the young age of the musicians. Ash In October was in many ways a logical progression of Prod & the Moonbaby and shared some of the same personnel, but also added some new wave influence through extra instrumentation and more serious, considered lyrics. Most of these tracks have never been heard before outside a handful of self-distributed tapes and this compilation was compiled over several years by the artists in collaboration with Hysteric and Nick Mariano (Crispy Nuggets).

Crush On You is an EP of particularly sophisticated forward thinking dance music. "Golden Days" is the late completion of Ethimm’s EP trilogy on Light of Other Days and it continues exactly where the group left off 4 years ago. What started as the groups signature "tension music“, oscillating between dark repetition and moody improvisations is slowly morphing into a production style that features a heavy pop sensibility infused with conciliatory optimism. The opener and title track of the EP recounts the meeting of a new lover in an autumn sunset. Starting with dreamy piano chords, a rhythmic bass and handclaps, it provides a beautiful musical backdrop for Tizi’s longing voice. During the course of the track, modulating synths and plucked guitars join her vocals as she sings about the "Golden Days“ spent with her lover. Over & Out starts off in typical Ethimm fashion. Dubbed guitars, minimal beats and a sparse piano melody sets the tone for Elisabeth Thimm’s fragile vocal. In "Over & Out" Elisabeth negotiates her wish for freedom and how she  breaks with her daily constraints. Albeit initially being drained in melancholy, the track ends on a musically hopeful note when a beautiful chord progression  suddenly appears, colliding with an extended synth solo from outer space. On "Echoes in the Distance" , glorious arpeggios accompany a sophisticated  303-style bass line and haunting vocals. The track follows one of Elisabeth’s  dreams into a frantic, nondescript, deserted backdrop and slowly morphes  into the most ecstatic piece of the EP. The multi-layered arrangement combined with Ethimm’s yearning voice on top, sound like about 3 tracks seamlessly sticked together. The track ends in pure ecstasy and the listener  is left with the exciting feeling of wanting more. The EPs ﬁnale is made up of the hopeful and minimalistic "Day by Day", a  track reminiscent of the balearic pop from the 1980's. Gracefully and drained in beachside sunshine, Ethimm reminds us not to waste our days with unnecessary actions and focus on the beautiful small things in life.
