Effervescent nu-disco act Bad Business Club present their second supremely refined full-length album, the deliciously sun-soaked and harmonically rich 'Naked Neighbor'. Following several releases on the revered Midnight Riot, the Bad Business Club return with eight delicately honeyed cuts certain to ring out blissfully over pool-sides and ocean panoramas throughout the long hot summer and beyond.  Informed by an irresistible blend of ‘Moroder-infused’ disco vibes, yacht rock flair, and understated nu-disco gloss, their sound is the aural embodiment of a gentle summer breeze.  'Naked Neighbor' was written at a hilltop cottage in Puerto Rico, while examining the theme of leaving old baggage behind as they reflected on their break from everyday life in Brooklyn.

The infectious vocal of opening cut ‘Flip me Over' glides over lush pads, hypnotic arps and tight drum patterns to create a dynamic disco bullet that revels in both night-time excitement and morning confusion.  The bittersweet refrains of 'Tired of Being Over You', are subtly melancholic and life-affirming as they weave the tale of “washing away an old flame”. 'Too Hot to Tame (Prelude)’ is a sunrise meditation, with celestial keys soaring over reverbed atmospherics and psychedelic guitars, co-produced with San Francisco-based DJ Cole Odin. The horizontal 'Runnin' from You' showcases sugary harmonies forged between Alex Van's baritone and Sam Behr's enchanting lead. The vocals power over a tight bed of funk-flecked instrumentation, making way for guitar solos, deeply weighted bass and crisp drums.

Named after the Puerto Rican house in which the album was recorded, the nu-disco energy of 'Casa Soleada' bursts with good time vibes, before the tempo drops making way for sweeping pads and muted guitar plucks of 'Reflections' to meditate over the album's theme.  'Early Morning Hours' unfolds to an engaging arrangement, as the vocals drive the track along a steady groove, with wistful lyrics combining layers of detailed melodies and emotive harmonies.  Closing this summer album is LA-based WOLFY who delivers his ‘Summer Sunshine Version’ of 'Flip me Over'.  Stripped backed sonics allow space for the soothing vocals to breathe before astral synths add a mind-altering sheen to the intoxicating groove.

Classic Me has been producing off the radar for over a decade, and it’s with pride that LAN gives the German artist a spotlight for the first time.


‘Cycles’ is an eleven track exploration into the ways classical, house music and its adjacent genres play off one another. Unsurprisingly for an artist with experience playing the violin, the album leads both in tracklist and concept with cinematic strings, which then soar into groovy basslines and slouchy kicks.


Classic Me’s confidence in production is levelled by spontaneity in the recording process (sometimes casually recording from a tablet on the go). Mastered in Paris by engineer Marine Benabou, the result is an interesting balance between play and perfection: though many of the tracks hint at J Dilla or Moodyman with their suggestions of tape loops and sampling, the orchestration uses hyperreal acoustics to bring echoes of Daft Punk, millennial Chemical Brothers and French touch back into the mix. 


It’s this tying together of classical influences with dance music’s more classic elements - hip-hop melodies, deep house vocals, funk basslines and the brightness of disco - which make up the unique sound of Classic Me. Each track turns a different face of the prism toward the listener, weaving an album that is cinematic and wistful without losing sight of its groove.

We’re looking into next year with our kaleidoscopic binoculars as the sun goes down on 2022, and it feels like the right time to dispense one last treat from the secret box, you know, where we keep the good stuff…

Mushrooms Project’s futuristic 6-minute odyssey Sun Down gets the dismantling from another cast of balearic astro hackers, reaching complete solar alignment since those acclaimed Sun Up remixes earlier in the year. Slightly - large - tip!

First up is James Bright, who brings his concretely clean-cut sensibilities to the fore in a cosmic quest that thumps along in controlled, unhurried ecstasy. Shapes sweep in and out of focus, building and morphing into an epic balearic crescendo for collective shuffling at dusk.

Proceedings continue with Ale Doreto delivering another balearic gem on his Late Remix, shifting gears on the original track with touches of psychedelia and bubbling bass that curls on the edges like flames cast out of the campfire. +10% tip!

Finally, D. Faux morph Sun Down into a sizzling, low-slung breakbeat chug, firing off omnidirectional acid lines, an invitation to some deranged dance party in some basement under an abandoned pub - you know the one, and you never wanna go home again.
