The Hedonic Treadmill Is Still Milling Furry Dolphins (feat. Michael Auinger)

Annoyed by the loudness of the street in front of my room's window, I wanted to build a song around the noises I heard every day and night.
But when I started composing, I realized that sometimes I actually really love the soothing sound of a rushing street .. the hectic, loud big city noise .. honks and motor sounds of unnecessarily pimped up cars .. the beauty of orange street lights that hold steady against the fog during winter .. how peaceful and silently traffic lights pursue their duty on empty streets in the middle of the night. Also I realized that this street and the view of it held a lot of memories .. good and bad ones..

With this piece I tried to capture these emotions and how the very same street can hold so many different affections and memories.
That's why I used 2 main "themes" (or melodies) over the whole song for several times but always in a slightly different context. At two occasion both melodies are played together. Like this street in front of my window, the melody stays the same, but the meaning of it changes.

Streets

With this composition I tried to capture the peaceful, silent yet steadily and unstoppable whirling of matter in deep space. Over unimaginably long time scales it forms new structures, over and over again, leading to our own existence and awareness.
Some find soothing confidence in this proof of human's complete insignificance within this frame of reference.
