@Federsen, could be considered an outlier within his native San Francisco scene. Preferring to sit outside of cities historically vibrant scene, he has chosen the calming presence of his studio over the bustling nightlife. The result is an artist who has truly set the stage for mastery of his style, nailing down the sound of dub techno in a way many haven’t. 

Growing up in Scotland, he has witnessed the infamous Acid House era, which pulled him into electronic music and started his lifelong fascination with music equipment. From there, Federsen has mapped his sound down to a science.

His deep, dubby, and groovy records have seen releases on the likes of @etui-records, @avantrootsrecords & @Lempuyang including his own label, Fifth Interval. With a new label on the horizon, Federsen’s interest in exploring new sonic possibilities through dub is far from over. 

We spoke to him about his //SNCMIX entry, the new label, growing up in Scotland, and more.

Originally from Odesa (Ukraine), Booch began his journey as a DJ in 2004, starting as a resident at Odesa’s iconic underground clubs such as Taboo, Domino, and Factura. Initially, he crafted his sets around the driving beats of electro-techno, but as his passion for music evolved, Booch delved into deeper and more minimalist realms of sound, transitioning to a distinct style of minimal-techno.
In 2008, he co-founded the CULT.beat promo group, one of the first initiatives to actively promote and cultivate the underground minimalist techno culture in Odesa. Through CULT.beat, Booch and his team organized large-scale events, sharing the stage with artists from around the world, including Dualism, Akiko Kiyama, Benjamin Fehr, Hubble, VENDi, Tulbure, Mihigh, Vid, Charlie, G76, Laurine Frost/Coldfish, Zots, Denis Kaznacheev, Pheek, Junki Inoue, and many more.
In 2023, Booch and his team expanded their vision by launching the CULT.beat record label, which has since released two vinyl records and five digital EPs, earning recognition for its innovative and forward-thinking approach to electronic music.
Now based in San Francisco (USA), Booch continues to build his collection of sophisticated vinyl records, focusing on slow, deep minimal techno interwoven with modern electronic soundscapes. Known for his dedication to vinyl culture, Booch predominantly plays vinyl-only sets, captivating audiences with his meticulously curated selections and timeless sound.
