Exium can be considered with no doubt pioneers in the spanish techno scene, almost two decades of devotion, passion and work on behalf of what we know as serious and militant music. In their vast career the have released countless vinyls in labels from all over the globe and have spreaded their live sets throught the most respected clubs and festivals all over the place. 

They decide what their pulsations are, can be minimalistic, complex, broken, layered or tooly and precisely, this is the case in this four tracker.

Noncellular life opens fire, and obsessive effected synth line lies over a profound kick and is slowly filled with percussive layers, drums comes in and out while the main hook persists and changes in timbre and texture. A genuine mixing tool. 

Inner mind relies on reverberated toms and sharp percussive elements with the only aid of occasional white noise sweeps, as always a dynamic arrangement made things busy.

On the flip side Inmune response is based on a linear raw sequence soon followed by distorted semi industrial layers while Host range gives us the broken beat dose that they master since ages. Over the complex beats succesive washes and drones fly over, evoquing darkness and pressure.

No jokes in this slice of plastic, aimed for the proper selectors out there.

UK techno don Jay Clarke joins the Soma ranks with The Kicker. Jay has started making his mark on the global techno scene with some serious releases via the awesome Klockworks label, and of course his own BLACKAXON imprint. Jay’s sound is characterised by elements of straight-up intense techno, blended with deeper Detroit-esque elements, culminating in a unique and well-produced style.

Straight Through opens up Jay’s Soma account and focuses firmly on the dance floor. Looped out, driving percussive elements push the track as hypnotic synths keep the rhythm flowing. Overlook has a tribalistic feel to it as wooden percussion work into a perfectly orchestrated groove allowing chopping hi hats and rides to deliver intensity as swelling atmosphere keep things ominous. Taking things down a deeper path, The Spark bounds with a well-crafted groove as spatial synth work brings more melodic and emotive aspects to the forefront. Title track The Kicker offers up the most diverse sounding cut on the EP with broken beat rhythms and discordant, almost jazzy synths breathing a distinct life throughout the track.

Parisien d’origine Marocain et italien, Robertino grandit avec la French house parisienne en tant que spectateur et rêveur. « Entre soirées clubbing et  Afters, je ne voulais qu’effleurer ce qui était au plus profond de moi. Cette passion pour la techno que je retrouvais presque chaque semaine au Rex, ou cette deep house de cette fameuse époque du Showcase. La musique était mon quotidien et surtout mon exutoire. Un côté sombre que j’aime, et qui me fait vibrer par cet éventail de sons et de mélodies si émotionnelles à mes yeux. »

C’est seulement à 26 ans, que sa vie pour la musique techno a pris un sens. Une belle rencontre Franco/Hollandaise, qui lui a apporté ce qui lui manquait pendant toutes ces années, l’envie et l’amour de partager.  « Entre Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin ou encore Barcelone, j’ai découvert de nouveaux artistes, de nouveaux clubs avec des styles variés et des rencontres tellement humaines qu’artistiques. Ma vision s’est élargi, et j’ai compris que la diversité de la techno était évolutive et que chacun se l’appropriait à sa manière. 
C’est que je voulais faire en jouant dernière des platines, exprimer ma propre vision par mes inspirations musicales et mes émotions. Tout est feeling, que ce soit avec la foule ou la musique. »

Le début d’une nouvelle aventure entre techno et passion. 

D’une rencontre à une autre, son chemin l’a amené à intégrer Point Breakers en 2016 sous le nom de T.no aka Robertino, un collectif où amitié et passion pour la musique électronique leur a offert l’opportunité de pouvoir s’exprimer à travers une techno pointue et talentueuse tant sur Paris qu’en Europe. En passant par le Batofar, la petite Chaufferie, Workshop de Lille ou encore au Golden Gates à Berlin. Le collectif poursuit son aventure pendant près de 3 ans en organisant aussi nos événements Point Breakers, avec nos résidents, Freddy K, Matrixxman, Normand Nodge, Boris, Radio Slave et bien d'autreS.

Point Breakers a été un chapitre, et j'en commence un nouveau sur Paris et maintenant Lisbonne.
