Magic Valley

Interstellar was commissioned by the South Shore High School Concert Band, under the direction of Jodi Truchon. Before writing this piece, I wanted to involve the students in the creative process. Working with their teacher, the students came up with programmatic elements for the work and the musical direction I would take to write the piece. The result was a thrilling work for concert band reminiscent of the film from classic science fiction movies. Interstellar embodies the grandiose and romantic sounds of a space adventure, juxtaposed with the driving and angular sounds of danger.
