"This mix was recorded in July 2021 at an indoor club in Omotesando, when lockdown was briefly loosen and was allowed to party at night little bit (maybe for about 2 weeks). It’s an excerpt of that all nighter set I have played, everyone wearing mask so was not able to see their faces but seemingly people were having a good time."

This is Part 2 of my Mystery of the Motherbeat series of DJ mixes. I’ve wanted to record this mix for a long time as a follow-up to my 2018 mix by the same name. Both are a fusion of styles used to build a psychedelic hypnotic soundscape for deep listening and personal synchronization with the heart of Motherbeat. Eris Drew’s Mystery of the Motherbeat Part 2

"This mix was recorded on Saturday morning at the Hemlock Hole, right in the center of Campout. One of my favorite things about experiencing music in the woods is the overlap of natural sounds and music, and throughout the first part of this mix I wanted to lean into that collision by layering ambient music, field recordings of regional locations (New Hope, PA, Niagra Falls, and a southern New York forest), and the living sounds of the forest around us. I've been feeling a lot of mourning and anger at the dystopian imperialist violence that has erupted over recent years, which has been making the escapism aspect of partying feel.... not good. So, I wanted to use this set to ground the beginning of the day in slow attention, careful listening to the place where we were, and presence. To me, this kind of presence is the starting point for facing the world and evaluating our roles in empire & capabilities for resistance. This mix builds up to a crescendo of euphoric, sassy midwest house music, which holds a special place in my heart and sets me free every time. I hope you enjoy the journey :)"

RA.1000 launches with Theo Parrish, live at fabric: a vanishingly rare club mix from the king of deep crates and impossible transitions.

There are DJ sets and then there are Theo sets. No matter how many times you've caught him in action, every time still feels like the first. Running hot, levels smoking, isolator working over time. You think you know dance music? Think again.

Parrish's debut on the RA Podcast is a milestone for the series, one we've sought for over 15 years. So it was only right that Theo led off our 1000th celebrations. Recorded live at fabric last December as part of RA's party with the London club for their 25th anniversary, this three-hour segment documents the crescendo of his eight-hour marathon. 

The Detroit legend doesn't release mixes often, and when he does, they're usually studio recordings: think NTS shows, his 100% Detroit edition of DJ-Kicks or classic tapes Body (1997) and Methods of Movement (2000). A capture of the Sound Signature boss on the dancefloor is hard to come by.

Sure, there's galvanising build-ups and crowd-pleasers, but laced throughout a Parrish beatdown are rarities designed to shock the system. In a business dominated by marketing, the vinyl master towers above thanks to a relentless hunger for lustrous melodies, moods and textures of all stripes, which he and he alone can fold into an inspiring and exhilarating joyride.

On RA.1000, blissful reggae precedes new wave disco; '80s R&B morphs into synthy techno; bleepy Chicago jack makes way for a poignant vocal ballad. It's Theo through and through. Once again, he proves that anything and everything is possible with the right records.
