Jeroen van der Want also known as RON L, is a Dutch DJ based in Gouda, The Netherlands and a resident of the Rotterdam-based organization Embodiment. 

After years of actively experiencing the Dutch techno scene, Jeroen was becoming more and more drawn to that world by the long-lasting feelings of fulfilment and belonging that he experienced after every event. His love and passion for the music made him take the next steps into starting his journey as a DJ.

Inspired by artists like Speedy J, Luke Slater, Function, and labels like Dynamic Reflection, Pole Group and Illegal Alien Records, RON L has crafted a powerful blend of driving, loopy and hypnotic sounds, which is often best experienced during the peak time of the night. Nowadays, Jeroen is using the Pioneer DDJ-1000 controller, where he has the chance to work with 3 or 4 decks and express himself even better through complex intense atmospheres.
So far Jeroen had the chance to play for the Amsterdam-based Orphic crew, Frameworks in his hometown Gouda and Embodiment in Rotterdam alongside Rene Wise and Somewhen. 

To Jeroen being a resident of Embodiment means that he is in a trust-worthy environment, where mutual respect is a ground rule, and he feels supported to grow musically and push his limits, which in turn will allow him to give back to the community by sharing his knowledge. In the future, he hopes to get the chance to perform more all around the Netherlands, but also internationally.

Number 54 for the series is brought to you by home-grown talent Xander also known as XÂRTE.

Back in the end of 2020 the journey for Xander started when he discovered his undeniable love for electronic music. As time passed by, he found himself spending a lot of time digging deeper into the techno realm. He started practising and experimenting with mixing and after some time Xander started posting his first sets online. He didn’t go unnoticed, and he has played at quite some venues already. Known for his style that blends hypnotic soundscapes with deep patterns, Xander tends to take the listeners on a spiritual experience. 

With this particular set, Xander intended to translate the set into a whole club night. He starts off with minimal deep techno and begins building up some tension while grabbing the listener's attention. As the tempo is building up throughout the set, the tone changes from minimal deep techno to hypnotic, where more driving textures can be heard. The skills that Xander has developed since he began DJ'ing are clearly audible. This young, talented DJ is surely someone to keep an eye on, and especially if you are interested in hypnotic techno. For now, let yourself be surprised by XÂRTE!

This is the recording of a totally improvised hardware live performance. Nothing is prepared beforehand. You can hear the music being created and destroyed as it's happening and that was as exciting for me as it is for the audience. 

This is a very risky way to perform. 
As I step up to play I have nothing, I have to create the music there in that moment. The audience is participating in that risk and that adds to the energy and creates a unique atmosphere and sense of excitement. Understanding the technicalities of the machines I'm using is not important. What is important is the energy of music being created right there in that moment. That creates a far deeper connection between myself and the audience than I've ever experience with playing back pre recorded music.

It's been a while since I've uploaded a DJ-set on SoundCloud. Most recordings I make, are being used for podcasts. But I've got good reason to post this one myself, because it's the time capsule of the most beautiful DJ experience of my life, which took place in Under Club, Buenos Aires. In 2 parts: first half today, the second half next week.

I can never thank you enough for letting me show you techno in all the colours I see it, moods I feel it and the history that shaped it. Truly unforgettable.

Ha sido un tiempo desde que he subido un DJ-set en SoundCloud. La mayoría de las grabaciones que hago, están siendo utilizados para podcasts. Pero tengo una buena razón para publicar éste a mí mismo, porque es la cápsula del tiempo de la experiencia más hermosa de DJ de mi vida, que tuvo lugar en Under Club, Buenos Aires. En 2 partes: la primera mitad de hoy, la segunda mitad de la próxima semana.
Nunca podré agradecer lo suficiente para dejar que me muestro techno en todos los colores que veo que, estados de ánimo me siento y la historia que le dio forma. Verdaderamente inolvidable.

It’s been a while since we had the pleasure to listen to his sound. Luckily the wait is over and our needs will be fulfilled as our resident RON L will provide us with a refreshing new episode of EMBDMNT SALON. 

We all know RON L for his peak time oriented sound, but over the last couple of months he challenged himself to dig deeper which resulted in, as he describes himself, ‘his most personal set so far’. Focussed on a sound which caused a lot of us to fall in love with techno in the first place, he addresses a nostalgic feeling that isn’t often experienced these days.

We’re proud to hear our residents grow despite the current situation. Everyone is coping with these times in their own way and for RON L this includes finding comfort in other music genres. By broadening his musical horizon he manages to keep himself inspired and deliver the drive and energy he’s known for so well.

In this set RON L aimed to translate the energy he would provide in a peak-time club experience. By using dark hypnotic soundscapes in combination with lots of energetic drive he manages to mesmerize the dancefloor and give them a dynamic experience. He aims to create an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect where the listener can fully let go and indulge in the moment. This magical dancefloor experience is something we all miss a lot, but thanks to RON L we have some new perspective on what to expect once the sound systems are fired up again.
