Recalling the environment of old days and the endearing, itinerant wayfaring minstrels who etched a lasting impression on young minds, such as the poet's. 

453. Vagabonds and Minstrels of Yore

Gone, are the vagabonds, who roved my land,
And etched upon my infant mind, a grand,
Awesome respect for itinerant ways
Of the roving fraternity -- their days,
Ever met with the joy of detachment;
Silent, the band of melodious minstrels, 
The blind minstrels, often, who sweetly sang
In the streets, led by a child holding hand,
And, for small change, an old discarded can
To take home a tinful of contentment;
Little did they know that I, a small boy
Spied upon their souls, and in freedom wild
With Erato, their muse, meandered and
Dallied within the embrace of her guile;
Gone are they, and I have grown old and grey
To bemoan their passing; another day,
Another time has come to rest, but they,
Their silence, and their songs reverberate
Yet; and for ever, too, will they remain
My happiness, my joy, my quest in pain!
