I used Lounge Lizard plug in (AAS) for the Rhodes sound and two instances of the Codex synth (Waves). All three tracks were recorded in one take. I just let the Codex synth do it's thing, like a river would. The Rhodes track represents looking out from the middle of the bridge to the river below.

This is my contribution to Naviar Haiku #146
This track was recorded in one take using the Red Panda Particle and Raster pedals in parallel through a Dwarfcraft Paralooper, put through a GFI system Specular 2 Reverb and Clockwork 2 Delay. No plug-ins were used in the mix. Minor mastering in Ozone 7.

Episteme (Naviarhaiku 146)

This is my contribution to Naviar Haiku 160. 
This was recorded in three tracks using my Fender Stratocaster and Eventide H9, Strymon Mobius, and GFI System Specular Reverb. No synthesizers or other equipment was used in this recording.
I wanted to create a soothing feel in this track, which is what the Haiku for this week brought to mind and soul for me.

Knee Deep

I used a recording that I made with contact mics of doorway fan that was affixed to the doorjamb. I taped the two mics on the jamb.

I then copied this track three times. One track is un-effected.
One track is manipulated with the AAS Objeq Delay and the Soundtoys Crystalizer, creating the tingly stereo sounds.
The third track was EQed to bring out the deeper sounds, Slight reverb added with Acon Reverb, and a more or less 3/4 beat added using CamelSpace.

I tried to reflect the underlying temptation that is present in the haiku as well as the carefree feel of snow falling. I think the contrast brings out an interesting tension that spoke to me from the Haiku.

Best heard with a good set of headphones.

The rhythmic elements are manipulated fragments of a sound file of violin making. I used AAS Objeq Delay, Eventide SP2016 reverb, Acon Digital Reverb, and Eventide Blackhole reverb. I used the Hybrid 3 soft synth for the string sounds. I particularly honed in on the word daybreak for this Haiku. Thanks for listening

This is my contribution to Naviarhaiku #267
I improvised with my guitar--using the Red Panda pedals Raster, Particle, and Tensor--for about 9 minutes focusing particularly on the phrase "orchestration of wildflowers" which I thought of as wild flowers in a broader sense. I then selected clips of various lengths and used the capacity of Bitwig DAW scenes to create a subsequent live composition with these clips. I selected many of the clips for the metallic bell-like sounds.

This is my contribution to Naviar Haiku #270.

Having just purchased the Red Panda Particle V2 pedal and owning the Particle V1 already, I put them in parallel with the Raster after. I used an expression pedal with the Raster to create the pitch shifting. I used the freeze feature on the Particles and Raster starting about midway through the track. At the end of the chain I used a stereo delay at 90 bpm and a modulated stereo reverb. Both from GFI System.

Obviously I was attracted to the word particle in the haiku. The Particles are granular delays with all kinds of modulation possibilities. 

I recorded this in one take. Then doubled the track and overlaid pieces. This causes some parts to be somewhat more dynamic, which I liked, so I did not create an automation track for the volume. I kept it as is, like a snowstorm would change in dynamics in its course.

I began by improvising the melodic lines and the dubbed the chord structure. I used the Raster by Red Panda and reverb and delay by GFI System.

I wanted to emulate the layers that the poem indicates. Begin energetic and end softly and gently.

As You Move Me (NaviarHaiku 273)

This is my contribution to Haiku 274.
The poem conveyed a sense of desolation. I wanted to capture this beautiful sense of darkness and yet convey light bursting through.
I kept thinking of the color yellow, how it can be mellow and then also very bright and energetic.

Based on a recent conversation on twitter I was interested in using a variety of delay effects.

This is my contribution to Naviar Haiku 277.

Some time ago I made a number of sound recordings using contact mics: tree branches in the wind, running and scratching a picnic table, walking with the mics in my pant pockets, playing my classical guitar in front of a metal side table, blowing and moaning into a cereal box, and some others. Almost all of the sounds have a bit of a muffled feel. I used that to focus on the waking and awaking aspect of the poem. 

Mixed live in Bitwig DAW.
Mastered with Ozone 8, directly in the master bus.

Ear To The Ground  (NaviarHaiku 277)

This is my contribution to Naviar Haiku challenge 282.
The following phrase captured my imagination, especially being an immigrant to the US and having experienced cultural displacement myself:
"Natsume Soseki’s investigation of a rapidly westernizing Japanese society and its sense of alienation has kept him famous into the 21st century..."
I tried to express the contrast of living in cultural uncertainty in this track. I used distortion on the guitar, something I do not do very often, but it seemed to really fit for me.
Again, I make extensive use of Red Panda pedals. In this case the Particle V1, and Raster pedals.

Adios Terra Cognita (Naviarhaiku 316)

This track used four delays: GFI Specular Tempus, GFI Clockwork 2 delay, Eventide Ultra Tap, and Red Panda Particle as a reverse delay. It also uses the GFI Specular Reverb and a little boost and tonal color from the Xotic Effects RC Booster. No other effects of VSTs were used in this track.
After some exploration this track was recorded in one take. I particularly like the impression of vocals that emerged especially when holding notes longer or using open strings.

Ethereal Pathway

Hope you find something you like here. My influences are many and varied. At one point I even liked disco. In music I look for clarity, layers, visualizations, and to be moved and surprised.
