kamẹra has been @renata-sabella 's alter moniker since she started delving into the side-pits of a large umbrella going from breakbeat to grime, footwork, trap and the sort. Standing for "chameleon" in Yoruba, the alias pretty much describes what it is that is driving the blustery beats we are used to from Renata, into an indulgent surplus of syncopation and rhythmic exploration. 

Here she is with another master beat-bending session, recorded at the latest Grime and Punishment at the Warehouse a little while ago.

@muqataa is a producer, beats craftsman and MC. Creating sounds based in Ramallah, using sampled material, field recordings, and electronic devices, the results range between harsh beats, ambient tones, increasingly been known for his more avant-garde noise music. and glitch. He released a number of solo albums in the past few years such as “Hayawan Nateq” in 2013 and his soundtrack album “La Lisana Lah” 2017 and the limited tape edition on Third Type Tapes “Dubt Al-Ghubar” in 2017 and recently released his full-length album “Inkanakuntu” on the sub-label souk/discrepant, and has composed several international and local film scores, as well as dance theater performances, and is now working on different collaborative and solo projects. Muqata'a is the godfather of hip hop in Ramallah.

Rootcast #03 Muqata'a

Here is the first episode of our monthly show with @muqataa . On this show, Muqata’a will be inviting a variety of artists from around the globe presenting different sounds to the platform.

On this episode, Muqata’a is invites Gonzo. The itinerant sound artist, Gonçalo F. Cardoso (Gonzo, Visions Congo, Prophetas, Papillon) is the founder of Discrepant (and its sister-labels Souk, Sucata Tapes and Farsa Discos). Between 2011 and 2019 he released several albums under his most persistent alias, Gonzo, now retired as a DJ only act, he continues to expand his style of gonzo-tronics through impromptu DJ mixes.

This mix was recorded at Gonzo’s home back in 2017. He told us that the original starting point for the mix was to seamlessly join old ethnographical records with modern/Avant-garde ones – highlighting the harmonic similarities with such disparate styles.
