Born and raised amidst the outback of the Italian Alps there was little structure to the musical education of Indian Wells. Much of his own taste emerged through personal exploration and through the inspiration of the scenic yet sometimes unforgiving environment which encompassed his world around him. However, whilst some might abide to live a life amidst the remote and lonely mountains Pietro used such circumstances to his advantage, using them as an enchanting backdrop to his own musical prosperity. Years later he has now established himself as a forward thinking musician with a back catalogue behind him of which many will be envious. He has released music most prominently on the Italian record label Bad Panda but has also appeared on the likes of Friends Of Friends. 

We invited him to contribute to our Monday mix series and he did so in fine style selecting music by the likes of Visible Cloaks, Yves Tumor, Bibio, Malibu and more.

Regardless of his young age, Tomas Station can be considered a veteran behind the decks.

His sets do not have a defined genre, the only defined thing is that his extensive musical collection and experience generates attention from the first to the last track.

"Crowned: A Quarantine Mixtape was created on the ship Arka Kinari during a 14-day quarantine at anchor in the bay of Hilo, Hawaii. Corona was just a local beer when the ship sailed from México bound for Indonesia. The pandemic caught the crew mid-Pacific, the borders quickly slamming shut for all the nations along the planned route: the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and Indonesia. The ship diverted north to Hawaii, one of the few landfalls still accepting vessels at sea. Ironically AK is a project to promote resilience to the disasters of climate change, promote energy-autonomy, and bring people together. But disaster came sooner than anybody imagined, freezing us all in an anxious purgatory.

We are now ruled by the crown. An invisible germ is our surprising global dictator. Like all royalty it is a parasite, and like all royalty it need to be overthrown. But as we retreated indoors we witnessed nature rebounding, the skies empty of pollution, and oil become near-worthless. This needn’t be an either/or choice, human well-being and the planets well-being aren’t mutually exclusive. Can we manifest a future of internal and external health, making this crisis into a portal? Or are we only capable of backing away from apocalypse when nature moves the battle lines inside our own bodies?

This mix reflects what I’ve heard these last weeks, filtered through the prism of the pandemic. You'll hear a lot from Mexico, the influence of the sea, and the technique of Hawaiian guitar applies to electronic music. My first slack-key DJ mixtape, with very little beat matching or key mixing. The moment calls for rhythm collisions and dissonance.

Mr. Wempe likes music with soul. He has been DJing with records for many years and has been hosting the monthly party series "Soul Gallen" at the Palace (St. Gallen) since 2010. The musical spectrum includes Motown classics, Northern Soul rarities, deep funk, rhythm'n'blues, dancefloor jazz, boogaloo, afro-beat, rocksteady etc. It doesn't matter if it's from the 60's or today, as long as you can dance to it. As DJ Soulsonic he co-founded the internationally successful event series "Rap History", furthermore he is co-owner of the record store "OOR Records" in Zurich.
